Ramona Young-GrindleWell, I would like to invite others to share their ‘attraction’ stories. Here is one of mine to kick things off.

After I had first leased my office space eight years ago, I was standing in the bare naked office trying to imagine how I would furnish it. Suddenly, the phone rang in the office next door to mine. The ring, and the ensuing conversation were pretty loud. As my business requires quiet and privacy, I was pretty dismayed. What had I done? I had signed a lease to an office in which I would not have either it seemed.

As I continued to anguish over this, I realized that the sound was coming through the door that connected our two office spaces. It must be a hollow-core door, I thought. It is resonating the sound. It did not seem to be coming through the wall at all. After the person next door finished his conversation, he left his office to go across the hall. He passed by my open door and stepped in to introduce himself. Noticing my concerned look, I explained what was going on. “No problem,” he said. “Just go to the home store and get some sound-proofing board. Get it cut to size and cover the door with it. Then you just need a bookcase to stand in front of it, and you’re all set.” Well, I thought to myself, I can do the sound proofing bit, but it may take a while to find the right size bookcase. However, I set off to the home store, actually finding a truly helpful person there who cut the board for me, including the cut out for the door knob, and I brought the board back to my office and ‘installed’ it over the door. It was not too attractive, being a rough brown textured and thick composition. I envisioned how nice it would be when I found the right bookcase to stand in front of it, a nice wooden one that would fit snugly into the doorway. I measured it and continued to think of exactly the kind of bookcase I wanted there, not having a clue how I would find one that would work in this most particular spot. I just had a feeling about how nice it was going to be, and I was excited about my office space working out after all. After spending a bit more time thinking about my office and how nice it would look when I got everything in place, I went home.

As I opened the door and stepped across the threshold, my husband called out, “I’m going to have to bring the company truck home tomorrow honey. My friend James from work has a bookcase he wants to give you for your new office.” Now, mind you, I had not even told my husband about the sound problem or the need for a bookcase. The next day, he and James brought the bookcase to the office, and, you guessed it, the thing fit like a glove inside the connecting door frame, completely covering the soundproofing board. From that day onward, I never had another problem with the sound from the other office. It was perfect. The thing I love most about this story is the instant nature of it. There was virtually no lag time at all. I visioned it, I was excited about it, and even though I did not know how it would happen, I just knew it would somehow work out.

Over the next few weeks, I was also gifted with four paintings, a clock, another bookcase, a lamp, plants and other assorted decor items for my office. I was trying to find the right kind of recliner to match my vision at a price I could afford, having just put out a lot for other business start up costs. Long story short, once I remembered to ‘let go’ of it (with an insistent reminder from my dear friend Rick, the founder of this website), the ad showed up the next morning. I wound up with a matched pair of beautiful green recliners for $200.00 total and I was all set to receive clients.

Now, let’s hear some of YOUR stories. The Law of Attraction is working all the time. Sometimes we attract what we fear (when we are not in awareness) and other times, we attract what we want or desire like magic. I would like to create a book of such stories because I believe that we are on the brink of a huge consciousness shift, and such a book may help that shift along. Please share you story here on the blog and if you are also willing to share it in a book format, please send it to me at trancelady@sbcglobal.net. If you have multiple stories, please share them with others. The more we can break down the old mindset around this the more we can co-create a wonderful, abundant and liberated life for all of us on this planet. By sharing our stories, we change the collective consciousness field. Remember the story of Roger Banister and the four-minute mile. Once he broke this ‘impossible’ barrier, many athletes were able to push through it. Our beliefs hold us back. Imagine how great a people we CAN be. Let’s be part of this process together.

drryg01.jpgFirst let me clarify something here. I feel a tremendous upwelling of consciousness potential at this juncture of time. The time is right for us to reach that ‘critical mass’ of consciousness which will turn the tide for us individually, for us as a species, and for our planet. It may even be that the ‘consciousness shift’ will have implications even beyond our planet. I don’t know, but I find that my mind is holding an ever growing vision of what is possible. I have seen the power of consciousness at work (and play) in so many ways, and my inkling is that this is just a tiny mote in comparison to what is truly available to us. I have had a dream lately of connecting, linking, of melding and merging at a very high order. It is this ‘collective consciousness’ that I am interested in fostering. When we blow out the ‘boundary conditions’ of our collective mind, we will soar…we truly will be limitless…and this is exactly what is needed at this crucial point on the space-time continuum. If you are still with me here, you may be wondering what all this has to do with Reiki and specifically Reiki stories….

If you have read my other posts you will find a common thread weaving these posts together…I am asking for you, the reader, to share you story. It is in sharing story that we push out the boundaries of our thinking…we become part of the shift…so, here again is another invitiation to share your story….both here on this blog, and in expanded version if you care to submit it to me at trancelady@sbcglobal.net for inclusion in a published collection. Truthfully, I don’t know how any of this is going to happen. I just ‘know’ that it is time for it to happen, and I feel compelled to provide these forums, these invitations to you. Each of you has a unique story, and it may be just the catalyst that will help another person expand…connect…grow…

For myself, I can say that Reiki absolutely changed my life. On my personal healing journey, it provided the catalyst from which all else followed as it placed my foot upon a healing journey I could not even comprehend when I had my first attunements. It was only in looking back over time that I realized it had been that juncture where it all began. I believe that it was that first set of Reiki attunements that opened me to having the spontaneous trance experience that led to my becoming a hypnotherapist. That is often the gift of Reiki…it is profound, yet sometimes so subtle that you can miss its impact until you find the proper filter for framing perspective…

Since then I have continued to study and practice Reiki, both Usui and Karuna. I have experienced many profound things along the way. One of my favorite stories is very simple, and some might say it is not worth reporting. Yet to me, it was very significant.

One of my Reiki students once asked me if Reiki could move bones. She had been exploring into other healing methods as well, and was probably referencing Quantum Touch, which is big on moving bones. Her question recalled to me this incident:

We were once in charge of a tiny baby miniature bunny for the first month of its life. We were ‘bunny-sitting’ as it were. When the bunny arrived (small enough to fit inside one palm) he had something wrong with his right front shoulder. He was hopping in a circle in a very erractic way, and the whites were showing around his eyes, an indication of extreme distress. I picked him up and held him in my hands. I immediately began flowing Reiki to him. He relaxed. I should say he melted in my hands. I could tell his shoulder was dislocated. At a certain point I was guided to gently stroke his shoulder and sure enough the bones loudly and visibly rearranged themselves. The little one’s eyes shut and he had an expression of bliss on his little black face. When I finally put him down on the floor he began to run and hop like crazy, even bounding three feet straight up into the air. From that time, every time I picked him up he would roll over onto his back in my hands and just completely melt into relaxation. We called him Zen-bun. Even after he went to his ‘real’ home he would do that when I saw him. I will never forget this littlest ‘client’ of mine. Just remembering him melting in my hands sends me into a deeply calm and happy state.

Now, it’s your turn. How has learning Reiki or receiving Reiki had a profound impact in your life?

drhhm01.jpgMany people in our modern times have what they describe as memories of having lived past lives. Remembering a past life has a potential profound healing effect on one’s health, relationships, life work, spiritual understanding and sense of Self. A past life memory can also be an opening for one’s spiritual evolution and growth. I know because I have remembered many of my own past life experiences and I have facilitated thousands of people while they were in a hypnotic state as they remembered their past lives.

Both spiritual traditions, Hinduism and Buddhism, have versions of reincarnation in their theologies. In both traditions there is a belief that the soul is eternal and that it takes different forms through out the process of birth, death and rebirth. In each tradition there is a belief that the incarnate form and life experiences one has is the effect of past lives. The concept of Karma, cause and effect, is also universal to these traditions. It is interesting to me that in the class readings reincarnation is never addressed as a part of the spiritual precepts or beliefs. In both spiritual traditions reincarnation is a basic component of the theology. The ultimate expression of spiritual growth is moving beyond the cycles of death and rebirth, to a state of re-emergence with the divine.

In this paper I will discuss the concept of reincarnation from two spiritual traditions: Hinduism, and Buddhism . I will weave into the discussion the phenomenology of personal experiences from my twenty-three years experience as a psychotherapist who specializes in past life regression therapy, and as a client of past life therapy . And I will discuss how doing regression therapy can assist the spiritual practice of people who follow the spiritual paths of Hinduism and Buddhism.

Hinduism
Sacred Hindu texts use the term atman to refer to the spiritual essence of a human being. The atman is one’s true self because it connects each individual soul to one Source or Supreme Reality – Brahmin. In Hinduism life is a journey which takes each individual soul back to the oneness of Brahman from which everything is born. On this journey we human beings tend to forget the truth of who we are: we tend to fall into samsara the seemingly never-ending cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Humans are destined to reincarnate over and over again until our atman, or spiritual essence as a human being, can remember that we are Brahman. Lifetimes give us on-going opportunities to reach a state of awareness called moksha or liberation. We can only reach this state by realizing that we are not our personalities and simply material beings. We must follow a path of dharma, a path or moral and ethical conduct to become one with spirit.

The Hindu perspective on reincarnation also includes the concept of transmigration of the movement of the soul from mineral, vegetable and animal forms before becoming human. After going through the many human forms to samsara the soul evolved to become angelic. Some Hindus believe that transmigration can also be reversed: that the human soul can also become animal in its next life if the soul needs to experience the karma of de-evolving.

The Hindu practices follow the teachings in the Vedas which are believed to have been composed between 1200 BCE and 1000 BCE. The Bhagavad- Gita, a Vedic text, is the story of prince Arjuna and his charioteer Krishna, who turns out is the reincarnation of the supreme God, Vishnu, the Lord of the Universe. In the Gita , Krishna explains how spiritual knowledge is attained. Knowledge is attained through the playing out of karma, living out one’s dharma, or spiritual duty, and through the perfection of one’s soul’s and learning through reincarnation. The experience of life and all of its teachings is so vast that it is unlikely that in one life time the soul can move into perfection.

The concepts of Karma and reincarnation are woven throughout the Bhagavad-Gita and are more than dogma to Hindus. In an article that appeared in India’s Illustrated Weekly (September 26, 1971) is the statement, “Karma and reincarnation are to them [Hindus] more than dogma, they are like the air that they breathe. And Hindus cannot help themselves feeling that they are a part of a cosmic scheme that is perpetually in a whirl. As Krishna says in the Gita, ‘All worlds up to that of Brahma are subject to rebirth again and again.’”

In past life regression therapy a client has the opportunity to directly experience the effects of karma or cause and effect in one’s own present and past lives. Through the life stories that unfold and through the associated state in the body, time and place of the past life, the client experiences direct emotions, sensations and soul awareness of the “hows” and “whys” of the past life in relation to current circumstances in one’s present life.
An example is from my own regression therapy work. I grew up with a physically and emotionally abusive alcoholic mother. By the time I was an adolescent I had given up on getting my mothering needs met by her and I lived with resentment and hate. I rejected my mother with the same passion I felt with which she rejected me until I accessed a past life memory when my mother was a child and I was her stepmother. I had the image and sensation of being angry and resentful toward my stepdaughter and beating her as she crouched in a corner. I experienced that I beat her often and that I was relentlessly emotionally cruel to her. I had the realization that in my current life my mother and I carried the soul memory of the past relationship and that karmically we were balancing out the drama by reversing the roles. This experience explained to me so clearly why I was the one out of four daughters she abused. In an instant not only did I understand the cause and effect of her abuse, but I also came to a place of forgiveness of my mother this life time and for myself in the past. Our relationship changed dramatically after this regression. The hate and resentment were gone. I was able to accept her and my relationship with her with more compassion. Understanding the karma between my mother and myself supported my ability to accept what is and to come to a place of peace and healing. I have no way of knowing to what degree this healing of my relationship with my mother has supported my spiritual evolution. I do know, however, that in this life time I feel more able to be present with what is and I felt less reactive and judgmental where my mother is concerned. I have also committed to the dharma of helping others to come to a more accepting and compassionate place in their lives through understanding the “why me?” of difficult situations in their lives. When one comes to the karma of the “why me?” as it is related to the past life connection to current life effects, awareness shifts and healing takes place. Past life regression work can help one do the spiritual work of Chanda in the Hindu tradition: “ This is the wholesome desire of chanda- to be free, the desire to relieve suffering, to be healthy, to promote well-being.” Past life regression therapy brings into the current life the spiritual practice of liberation, and basic self-esteem and equality with others.

Buddhism
Reincarnation is also a basic part of the theology in the Buddhist tradition. The Buddha, Siddhartha, at his moment of enlightenment saw all of his past incarnations as he looked into his reflection in the river. One effect of enlightenment is that the wheels of karma are broken and one no longer must reincarnate to perfect one’s Being. A Boddhisattva, however, is one who reaches enlightenment or Nirvana and chooses to incarnate to assist all others incarnated in reaching nirvana through teaching how one can release suffering and attachment. Reaching perfection is the goal of Buddhists and perfection is reached by incarnating over and over again to experience and learn how to let go of all attachment and suffering created by the mind. The schools of Mahayana and Zen Buddhism hold the belief in personal reincarnation and those who practice these forms of Buddhism are focused on stopping the karmic pull that bring us back into a body in human form.

The original Buddhist scriptures, known as the Pali Canon, were recorded several hundred years after Buddha’s death. The most celebrated of these is the Dhammapada. Here Buddha plainly speaks of two selves within the human being, the lesser self and the greater self, the former being perishable and the later enduring from life to life. Here is a selection from the Dhammapada: “I call him Brahmana [a true Brahmin] who has destroyed his doubts by knowledge and had plumbed the depth of the Eternal….Him I call a Brahmana who knows the mystery of death and rebirth of all beings, who knows his former lives, who is a sage of perfect knowledge and who has accomplished all that needs to be accomplished.”

In the Diamond Sutra the opening paragraph refers to a past life of the Buddha when he was born a king’s son and his raging father cut the infant into pieces:

When the king of Kalinga cut my flesh from every limb, at that time I had no perception of self, of being a soul, or a person. And why? If at that time I had had a perception of self, I would have had a perception of ill-will….With my superknowledge I recall that in the past I have for five hundred births led the life of a sage devoted to patience.

In the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism the Dalai Lama is chosen because of his ability to remember certain objects and spiritual teaching from a prior lifetime as a Dalai Lama. He is put to tests to prove the authenticity of his reincarnational heritage before he is accepted into the role as the new Dalai Lama. His ability to remember is a sign of his advanced spiritual state. The Tibetan Buddhists want to honor the past learnings and wisdom of their spiritual leader; he can pick up where he left off in a prior life time. Bradford Smith of Colombia University writes:

When the previous Dalai Lama dies, wise men who had gone to seek the new holy one, had found a little boy who recognized things that had belonged to his predecessor and could pick them out unerringly from among similar objects….So here is a religion where an infant is born obscurely, recognized by wise men and worshipped: where a holy man prophesies that he will return from the dead……In Tibetan Buddhism, with its firm faith in the rebirth of the soul, not only of the
Dalai Lamas but of all, and of a progress based upon behavior during past lives, this impulse is dramatically present.

The Dalai Lama speaks of the effects of Karma and reincarnation in a poignant way in a discussion of the sad state of Tibet where suffering has been inflicted upon the people, and where the Chinese are attempting to stamp out every vestige of Buddhism may wonder how the Dalai Lama views all this in the light of reincarnation. An answer is given in an interview with the Lama as reported in the New York Times (November 12, 1967):

As a Buddhist he said that he believes that the present events are determined by intricate sets of causes stretching back into the previous lives of those who are affected by them. “Thus”, he said, “it was only an ‘outward appearance’ that the Tibetans were suffering today because of the Chinese aggression. The aggression must have come because we did something bad.” “Similarly”, he went on,” it is only an ‘outward appearance’ that Chinese rule in Tibet is now permanent. The chain of causes that will eventually undermine it, must already be lengthening, even if it cannot be seen.” “Cause and effect, cause and effect, cause and effect, “ he said cheerfully in English, his fingers darting in the air to join the links of an imaginary chain. “There will certainly be change.”

Past life therapy is a spiritual process through which you can remember the Self and the truth of who you are as a spiritual being. Through direct experiences of emotions, body sensations and events one can come to a profound understanding and acceptance of the way it is. One has a direct experience of karma and the bigger picture of the spiritual lessons that come through the process of karmic experiences of cause and effect.

Sixteen years ago a man came to see me to do a past-life regression around his lack of ambition and success in the field of music. The minute he walked into my office I was struck with a deep and profound recognition of him. This man is now my husband of fourteen years. Through out our life and spiritual work together, I have come to understand so much about our connection and our karma.
In a past life we shared in Ancient Egypt, Paul, my husband now, was a man of spiritual responsibility. He was to watch over the Priestess virgins who were to be sacrificed whenever a pharaoh died. The Priestess spirits would accompany the dead pharaohs into the afterlife to protect them and care for them. I was chosen to be sacrificed. He chose me to die because I was the most evolved of the priestess. This choice infuriated me. We had fallen in love and I wanted to be free to be in relationship with him. This was not possible since I was a well- guarded virgin priestess. I was furious that he would choose his spiritual responsibility to sacrifice the highest priestess over our personal love and that I was the victim of a spiritual ritual that I knew was based on superstition, not on the reality of the power of love. When I died I was angry at the stupidity of personal religious sacrifices when I knew that love was the most important healing force in the universe.

Well, in this life time we get to be together to explore personal and spiritual love. I feel that Paul is very dedicated to exploring the experience of personal and spiritual love with me. And I am exploring more lessons about personal sacrifice: what it is and when it feels appropriate and inappropriate. We have both moved beyond religious dogma and adopting external authority where our spiritual life is concerned and we both are involved with the dharma of supporting others in being in relationship with their own spiritual power. We are consciously working on freeing ourselves from the karmic wheel that keeps us caught up in the suffering and entrapment of mind. As stated by the Buddhist scholar Bassui Tokusho:

If you would free yourself of the sufferings of samsara [rebirth], you must learn the direct way to become a Buddha. This way is no other than the realization of your own Mind. Now what is this Mind? It is the true nature of all sentient beings, that which existed before our parents were born and hence before our own birth, which presently exists, unchangeable and eternal. So it is one’s Face before one’s parents were born…When we are born it is not newly created, and when we die it does not perish. It has no distinction of male or female, nor has it any coloration good or bad. It cannot be compared to anything, so it is called Buddha nature….
Should your yearning be too weak to lead you to this state in your present life time, you will undoubtedly gain Self-realization easily in the next, provided you are still engaged in this questioning at death, just as yesterday’s work half done was finished easily today.

Past life therapy is a tool that will support the soul’s spiritual work in moving towards finishing… in moving towards one’s Buddha hood, today. Past life therapy can give one the direct understanding and experience of cause and effect and can help one to more consciously choose thoughts and actions that will support the lessening of personal and planetary suffering. Through doing the work of past-life therapy one can realize more fully that we are all Buddhas in the process of Self-realization.

drrar01-new.jpgDo only what you are truly passionate about. If it is not your passion, turn it over to someone who has the passion. If you choose to follow a practical voice instead of the voice of your passion, your subconscious will sabotage your efforts until you return to your passion.

In my attempts to build a Hypnotherapy practice I moved away from my passion. I watched others who had passion to work with smokers build thriving practices with these clients.

I began to think that smoking and weight loss were the only way to have a thriving Hypnotherapy practice. Being practical instead of passionate, I started aggressively going after these clients. Before I knew it I was getting more of these clients. With each one I was starting to like hypnotherapy less and less.

Suddenly the whole idea of a thriving Hypnotherapy practice brought up a sense of dread within me. A practice filled with smokers trying to quit or even all weight loss clients was not my passion. As a result my smoking cessation clients would make appointments and not show up. My self hypnosis for smoking class had just one student.

Now I’ve committed myself to only working with those clients who I feel passionate about serving. I only do the style and type of hypnotherapy that I am passionate about.

I’ve done this passion dance before in my life. Telling stories was and is a passion of mine. Writing stories was an extension of that passion. Reporting stories became a part of that passion as I entered journalism. But slowly over the years, lured by money and ambition I moved away from my passion. Eventually the passion ran out and I had to get out of Television news and rediscover my passion.

This happens to people all the time. When we make choices to be practical over passionate we run into trouble.

When we follow our passion our lives unfold effortless and easily. If you are driven by passion there’s no procrastination, you leap into a project and can get lost in it for hours or even days. It becomes a compulsion if there’s passion.Speaking Your Truth

There are things in this life that are not our passion, but that might need to be done. So what do we do if this needs to be done, but we’re only going to do what we’re passionate about? Enlist the help and talent of someone who is as passionate about doing these things as you are about your passions.

If we all just hire people who are living their passion, then we all get to live our passion. If you take on something that is not your passion, you are taking away someone else’s opportunity to do what excites them the most.

Anything that you feel you “should do” is not your passion. It is not something that you really want to do. It is something that can be farmed out. You can trade your services, your time, your energy or even pay money to get these things done.

When you push yourself to do something that is not your passion it won’t have the spark, the energy, that certain something that will make you a success.

It is possible to have a passion but not act on it out of fear. Sometimes it can be hard to discern if it is fear or lack of passion that keeps you from your task. When in doubt, Hypnotherapy can be a great tool for figuring this out.

A trance experience can connect you to your own inner wisdom and create an opportunity to discover your passion and let go of your fear.

Just for today, do something that your passionate about and experience how this can change everything

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply an altered state on consciousness or trance. It’s very similar to states of consciousness that you are in on a daily basis. For instance…
When you read a book and really get “into” the story… You are in an altered state of consciousness that is very similar to what we do in my office.

How do you induce that state of consciousness?

The first thing we do is to remove as many outside stimulus as possible. Things like dimming the lights so there is less visual stimulus… We have you recline in a comfortable chair in a comfortable position so that your physical awareness of your body is lessened.
We also try to control other senses such as hearing. In my office, I have my clients wear headphones so that outside noises are reduced, and I can play soft background music and nature sounds along with my voice to conduct the actual session.

What is the actual session?

A hypnosis session is like beginning to read a book. Author’s usually start out writing a story that will lead the reader right into the story until it captures their imagination and the words that he’s written then begin to unfold in the reader’s mind.
We do the same thing with hypnosis with what we call and induction. An induction is simply beginning to give the client something to follow along with, as they begin a journey inside their own mind that unfolds all by itself. We tap into the clients imagination, help them heighten it by asking questions, and then guide them through a story that comes from inside of their own minds. We make general suggestions to them to start them along the way.

What would an example be?

I use a progressive relaxation induction that has the client imagine relaxing different parts of their body. Once we get through the entire body, I ask them to imagine themselves on a beach. That’s pretty non-specific. I suggest that they are on the beach with sand and water and sky, which is on virtually every beach by definition. Then I ask them what the temperature is there, or the time of day… Or the time of year… And the picture begins to paint itself in their mind. I ask them if there are any sounds, and often the sounds of the ocean waves, or birds chirping begin to enter in also… The client begins to become aware of all of these things as their imagination gets going. At that point, we move into the meat of the session where we deal with the issue for which they made the appointment.
How we approach the issue depends on what the issue is.

Does it work?

You know? It does. And even though I do it all the time, and have seen it work with hundreds and hundreds of people, it still amazes me.

So how do you make people change?

I don’t. It’s my job as a hypnotherapist to guide the client into the altered state of consciousness, and then to continue guiding them to discover and explore their inner selves and to come to some sort of resolution all on their own. The part that amazes me is how quickly a client can get to that place inside themselves, how elegantly they can deal with the issue, and how fast the results usually are. It seems like magic sometimes.

drnic01.jpgHere’s an interesting story about my spiritual journey and golf. I grew up on a golf course and had really a love-hate relationship with it. Mainly because my parents really tried to push me into it and also because I did not have the valuable information that I know today, which by the way can be easily taught to children. Nevertheless there was something magical that occurred in me when I was taught to put my 6-year old hands on the grip for the first time and take a swing and watch the ball soar high into the air. I loved that part. I was a great athlete though and golf seemed a bit to slow for me, so I enjoyed several other sports, diving and softball and gymnastics. I played off and on, but more off than on until I turned seventeen. I went to Cal State Stanislaus and went out with a boy on the golf team. I got tired of sitting in the car doing my homework and watching him hit balls so I decided to try it again. Wow was it easy to pick it up again. It was so natural and it was because I learned when I was a child. Here is a piece of advice for all you adults that are taking up golf for the first time. You still have a great chance to learn golf and play well. It is a myth that you have to play golf when you are little to be good. Sure it helps, but if you can learn in a childlike state and if your teacher can nurture that you will learn much faster.

Anyway to get on with my story. Within two years I was able to be an alternate player at the number one team in the nation at the time- San Jose State University. San Jose State produced many champions such as Pat Hurst, Julie Inkster and Patty Sheehan. I felt not only that I was lucky but that there was something bigger- a destiny.

During my years at San Jose State I was able to have a meeting with the sport psychologist Tomas Tutko, who is the forefather of sport psychology. In that one meeting I was fourth in a home tournament. Although I didn’t hold on to the lead and learned that the skills he taught me greatly changed my performance. And I was on my way to a very interesting career and spiritual path.

After college I joined the Ladies Professional Golf Association and began teaching juniors and then later adults. I learned from many valuable pros on how to teach the physical aspects of the golf swing as well as the courses that the LPGA provided. I moved to Northern California and worked as a golf teacher at a busy driving range giving hundreds of lessons. I loved it. I have an extreme passion for watching my students get better, but I knew that there was something missing. Something that I couldn’t necessarily provide and needed to know more about.

One morning I woke up to a dream about a man telling me all about his migraine headaches. In the dream he kept telling me about these headaches to the point I was annoyed. I woke up a little irritated because of this dream, especially because it seemed so real. I went to the range that day and was hitting golf balls and looked up at a man staring at me. I acknowledged him wondering all the while why he was so in my face. He then proceeded to tell me all about his headaches, I listened intently because it was the same story in my dream that morning. He then told my how hypnosis helped him get rid of his headaches. I immediately went home and looked up a hypnosis school in my area and told my husband at the time that I was going to spend 3,000$ on hypnosis training because I knew I was suppose to. He thought I was crazy but could tell I felt very strongly about this. I thought if hypnosis could work for that man’s headaches it might certainly work for people’s golf games. I went to hypnosis training for 4 months and it changed my life drastically. My friend Rick McFall and I opened up an office together and I saw the miracles of hypnosis in action with my clients golf games as well as many other areas of their lives.

During this time I also attended John F. Kennedy University to get my Master’s in Sport Psychology, a program in which I did my thesis in hypnosis and golf. The golf lessons I gave to me clients took on an extremely different feel. They started to have deep spiritual insights about themselves, and others whom the played with. They developed more body awareness. They were more aware of their feelings of anger and able to change them to joy. I was also on a different journey as a teacher and a player.
I then worked at the Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon, where I was both a teacher and a hypnotherapist/sport psychologist. We had a wonderful inside teacher facility with state of the art video technology. On the other hand I was lucky enough to be given a trailer for my sport psychology. I have to say that most people after having a lesson with me could understand that there problems I golf weren’t so much related to their physical technique but more to their mental game. They found that after bringing more awareness to their mental game they were more able to learn the physical technique and much quicker.

This was so exciting to me and I wanted to take it a step further, so I went to the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology to get my doctorate in spiritual psychology. I learned much about alternate states of reality through dreams, art, dance and poetry. All the while I was thinking of way I could apply this to golf. I also studied acting and learned much about the correlation to body/mind awareness. I decided that I wanted to take a break from school and take a year to apply this to my own golf game and that’s exactly what I did. I practiced for 8 hours a day all the while using golf as a meditation to get me closer to the source of my inner spirit.

I was able to get the pro tournament experience I needed to further me along my journey by playing in a couple of events in Arizona and I went to tour school for the LPGA. Although I didn’t qualify I was able to reach my intention of taking myself all the way through that in order to truly understand the depths of my own spiritual awareness so I could further help others. I am now in a doctorate program at San Diego University of Integrative Studies. I am taking clinical psychology so I will be able to work with anyone in any area. All the while still expanding my knowledge of my own golf game and helping others reach their true potential. I want to help as many people as I can to experience that inner awareness, joy, and spirituality that I have experienced.
I live in Palm Springs now- a golf mecca. I am excited to be in the heart of a golf community and look forward to my new journey as a golfers guide on a spiritual path. I hope our paths will cross in this wonderful sport and wonderful planet that we are so fortunate to be a part of. Golf is truly a journey into your soul, if you let it be.
