Headshot-good1-web.jpgIf you want to quit smoking or know someone who does, you might want to read this. There are all sorts of advertisements for “stop smoking aids” and methods to quit smoking, but in my hypnotherapy practice, I have discovered things that you probably won’t read about anywhere else. Perhaps these are the secrets about smoking that will ultimately help you or that person you know who smokes actually quit. None of this information is medical advice, and I strongly encourage you to talk to your medical doctor about quitting smoking. (Obligatory Disclaimer)

Is Nicotine “Highly” addictive?

Let’s start off with one of the most controversial things I’ll be telling you. We’ve all heard that nicotine is a “highly” addictive substance. There are studies, and tests, and trials and all sorts of data to “prove” that fact. There are nicotine patches, nicotine gums, and other “nicotine replacement” therapies used to break the smoking habit. I’ve heard anecdotal information that nicotine is more addictive than heroine. I’m not a medical doctor, and I’m not a researcher, AND I’m not giving you medical advise here, BUT if the reason people had so much problem quitting smoking was because they were addicted to the nicotine, and the reason they smoked was to GET the nicotine into their systems, wouldn’t the desire for cigarettes immediately disappear as soon as they got the nicotine through another avenue?

In other words, if nicotine addiction is the culprit, once someone put on the patch, wouldn’t they just naturally NOT want cigarettes anymore? Most people I have worked with have tried the patch, and it didn’t do anything for them (or not enough). So is nicotine addictive? Sure… but so is caffeine… The point I’m getting at here is that the “nicotine addiction factor” with smoking is only a small part of the reason people continue to smoke and that nicotine is no more addictive than your morning coffee. From all the studies I have read about, it seems that right around 1 in 5 people are helped by the nicotine patch when they quit smoking. So if it’s only 1 in 5, then common sense says there must be something else going on.

What Purpose Does Smoking Serve?

“Why” someone smokes and the “Purpose” for smoking always gives two different answers. The “Why” might be because it relaxes the smoker, or it beats boredom, or some other “reason”. The “purpose”, however, is completely different. When I work with smoking clients in person, I induce a trance and we go back to the first time they smoked. I have them remember the situation, the time, all the specifics, and their mindset. What I find fascinating is that VERY close to 100% of the people who started smoking had the same purpose(s) for smoking. The purposes were 1. “To Rebel Against Their Parents”, and/or 2. “To Fit In with Their Peers”.

Let’s look at that for a moment. The purpose for smoking for most smokers is “To Rebel” and “To Fit In”. Is that a purpose that the smoker WANTS it to have? Does it work anymore? Do they still NEED to rebel and fit in? In today’s society, smokers are fitting in less and less by smoking, so it definitely doesn’t serve that purpose. As far as rebelling against their parents, that should have been over LONG ago for most of my clients, and in most cases IS over.

So… for most people who smoke, the purpose for smoking is no longer valid. It may have been valid at one time in their lives, but it isn’t anymore. To re-frame it, smoking serves no purpose. All that’s left now are the “why’s” and we can change those easily…
So If It’s not Addiction, and It Serves No Purpose, Why Do I Smoke?

There are a couple of reasons left, and I’m going to tell you all about them. The first one is that you’ve gotten into the habit of smoking. Actually, you got into the habit of performing certain “actions” with parts of your body and certain “rituals”, so to speak. Let me give you an example of something not related to smoking.

I’ve worn glasses ever since I was in my early 20’s. When I wear glasses, I don’t like them fitting too tight because they hurt my ears and the sides of my head sometimes,so I adjust them to be a little loose. With my glasses being a bit loose they slide down on my nose sometimes, and I reach up with my right hand and push on the center of the glasses over the bridge of my nose and push them back. No big deal… They slip down, I push them back up.

Well, I decided to get rid of my glasses and start wearing contact lenses, and I noticed the oddest thing. When I was agitated, or nervous, or bored, I would reach up as if to push my glasses up on my nose, even though I didn’t have glasses on anymore. The same action, but totally without purpose. It was a habitual action. A behavior. When I did it, I felt silly and could laugh at myself, and that made it quite simple to stop within a short period of time with no problem. I didn’t like contacts, by the way, and I went back to wearing glasses and am back to pushing them up on my nose again, but with purpose…

The Habit and “Ritual” of Smoking

Now let’s look a bit more at the actions of smoking. Most smokers smoke a pack a day. Some more, some less, but the majority are right around one pack a day. Each pack contains 20 cigarettes, and it takes about 15 “puffs” on a cigarette to smoke it. Each time a smoker smokes there is a ritual of sorts that is involved. He or she gets the pack, taps out a cigarette, puts it to their mouth, lights fire of some sort, puffs to get the cigarette lit, then performs a repetitive action of putting the cigarette to their lips and puffing and taking it away from their lips about 15 times, and then ends the ritual by stamping the cigarette out in some manner. This whole ritual takes 7 to 11 minutes to perform, and it is performed 20 times a day at fairly regular intervals.

Not only is he or she performing the ritual 20 times a day, he or she is also moving their hand to their mouth three HUNDRED times a day. Smoking for over 10 years means you’ve performed that action day-in, day-out over a MILLION times — literally. Now I don’t care WHAT it is, if you’ve done three hundred times a day for 10 years, when you stop doing it, it’s going to feel a bit odd, or like something is missing. I felt odd when I stopped wearing glasses and found myself performing the action of pushing up non-existent glasses on my nose. It’s the same thing going on here… It’s not the cigarettes that a smoker misses, it’s the ritual, and the action. Take away the cigarettes, and the ritual and actions have no purpose, so the smoker doesn’t do them anymore, so there is that feeling like, “there’s something I need to be doing right now”, or that something is missing, etc. That feeling gets translated by the brain into something along the lines of , “I need a cigarette”. In reality, it should be translated into, I need to perform my ritual/action.

Smokers Assign High Importance to Cigarettes

Somehow over the period of time that a person has been smoking, they began to assign extremely high importance to the cigarettes with behaviors about them. A smoker always makes sure to have cigarettes with them and that they have a “sufficient quantity” to last a while. A pack of cigarettes (and a lighter/matches) are nearly ALWAYS within easy reach if not ON the person’s body in a pocket or purse. If a smoker runs out of cigarettes, he immediately goes to a store and purchases more. If he forgets them, he either goes back to get them, or buys more right away. A smoker always tries to ensure there is a steady and ample supply of cigarettes.

The slight twist I’m going to make here isn’t that the cigarettes are so important, as is the ability to perform the “ritual” and “actions” I wrote about earlier. It’s the RITUAL that is of utmost importance, thus leading to all the actions and protections related to the “ingredients” of the ritual. That’s VERY important. It’s not so much the cigarettes themselves that are important, as it is the ritual that’s important.

Let’s look at it another way. Suppose you work at a job that’s 50 miles from your home. The way you get to work everyday is to drive your car there. You wash your car, do all the maintenance on it, and know the best route and alternate routes to get to work. So… everyday, you get up, get showered, and dressed appropriately and drive your car the 50 miles to your job. That’s your ritual — getting ready, and traveling to work. Your car is important because it’s an integral part of the ritual of getting to work. making sure there is enough gas in the car is important so that you can complete the ritual, as is maintenance and repairs on the car. The important OVERALL part here, though, is “getting to work”.

Let’s throw In a Few Changes
So what happens if your driver’s license is taken away, or your car breaks down and you can’t afford to get it fixed or get a new one? All of a sudden, you can’t get to work the way you have been for years. Regardless of how it happened, driving your car to work is now no longer an option. So now, you find another way to complete your “ritual” of going to work — because THAT is what’s important, right? It’s not HOW you perform the ritual of getting to work, it’s just important that you DO perform it. Perhaps you can take the bus, or the subway, or carpool with a co-worker. There are all sorts of ways that will get you where you need to go with relatively few differences. Sure, there will be some minor adjustments, but overall, things are the same. You still get up every morning and get showered and dressed appropriately and “travel” to work. The “travel” part is just a bit different now.Now Let’s Apply That to Smoking

Earlier we saw that nicotine isn’t all that addictive, and that smoking really doesn’t serve a purpose anymore. We also saw that it’s the ritual and the actions that seem to be important and that need to be altered in how we complete them. Now let’s change “how” we complete the ritual, so that you can give up cigarettes easily by replacing them with something else.

The ritual we are changing has a lot of ingredients, and we want to keep as many of those ingredients as we can, so that there will be as little “adjustment” as is possible., so let’s look at the ingredients. There is the repetitive arm motion of raising the hand to the mouth. There is the oral sensation and taste of the smoke. There is the need to have a constant, ample supply of the ingredients. We also want to have the changes actually be something healthy, rather than unhealthy.

Many people gain weight when they quit smoking because they substitute eating snacks or candy to satisfy the oral sensation, taste, and repetitive hand/arm movement. They keep snacks and candy around constantly in order to satisfy the ample supply part of the whole scenario. Since weight gain isn’t desired, that makes snacks a poor choice as an alteration to the ritual.

To combat the weight gain, some people try to just chew gum, but that doesn’t meet the “repetitive arm movement” part of the ritual even though it meets the others.

OK, Tell Me What Works!

The best thing I have found is so simple it blows people away. Get yourself a sports bottle (the kind with a straw sticking out the top) or one with a closeable top is even better. Keep it with you always, and keep it filled with drinking water. Assign the same importance to IT as you USED to do with cigarettes. By that I mean that: 1. You always carry it with you. 2. If you forget it, you either go back and get it or buy one at the nearest convenience store. 3. You always keep it at least half full, and make sure you refill it if it starts to run low.

It satisfies the repetitive arm movement. It satisfies the oral sensation/taste. It satisfies the constant/ample supply scenario. And everyone is always being told to drink more water to stay healthy. It’s a home run!

To Make it Even Easier To Quit - Do This

Before quitting, start to make cigarettes less important in your life. You can do that in VERY simple ways, and you’ll notice that you begin to smoke less without even trying. Here is what you can do:

1. Get the water bottle and start carrying it with you as described above (but don’t even TRY to stop smoking yet).

2. Put your cigarettes in a different place than “within reach”. Put them at least 10 steps away. The farther away you put them the better, but in “another room” is actually good. Get into the habit of doing this and your smoking will drop off a lot. It’s important to remember here that it’s OK to smoke whenever you want to at this point. You just need to go to the other room and get ONE cigarette and then leave the pack there and go smoke. If you smoke in your car, try putting the cigarettes in the trunk, and stop and get one out of the trunk whenever you want to smoke. You’re NOT quitting smoking yet. You are reducing the importance of the cigarettes in your subconscious mind’s perception. At the same time, you are giving it the water bottle in step one to transfer that importance to.

3. Count how many cigarettes you smoke each day. Get an initial count before you make any changes at all. Don’t force yourself to smoke less, just count them in whatever way you wish. Track what begins to happen when you have done steps 1 and 2 above and expect to see a rather quick drop off initially, followed by a more gradual reduction over the next few weeks or so.

4. About a week AFTER you have been successful at establishing the habit of leaving your cigarettes in another room and you only smoke when you go get one make this next change. Only smoke in one place, and do nothing else while smoking. No watching TV, no talking with other people, nothing. You stand or sit by yourself and just smoke that one cigarette.

5. If you’ve been buying cigarettes more than one pack at a time, start just buying ONE pack at a time, and only buy another pack after all the cigarettes from the current pack are gone.

Let each change that you make above settle in and become comfortable for you before you make another change. even though this will take longer for you to quit smoking, it will make it completely stress free and permanent for you. GRADUAL is the key here.

When do I Actually Get To Quit?

The answer is… When you feel ready. Once you have done all the things above, and you’ve experienced how easily you cut down dramatically with very little “adjustment” problems, you’ll find your confidence in being able to “quit completely” will be at an all time high. When you start to get that “I can really do this” feeling, set a quit date. Gradually get rid of ashtrays, and lighters so that on your quit date you’ll only have “one last ashtray and lighter” to get rid of. If you want to use the patch, make sure you have them ready to go (or the gum, or inhalers or any other aids you wish to use). You can do this more easily than you ever thought possible. Just do it the way I laid it out, and you’ll program your mind to help you with it rather than fight you on it.

Now for My Shameless (and BRIEF) Sales Pitch

Another Stop Smoking Aid is hypnosis and subliminal audio. It can truly assist with the process above, and make it go quicker or easier. You don’t NEED this to stop, but a little extra help is always beneficial. You can read about the CDs (a set of 3 for around $40) or MP3 downloads (a set of 7 for under $20). They have helped a LOT of people quit smoking, and they’re not only reasonably priced, they really work.

Headshot-good1-web.jpgComing very soon on our site, and hopefully lots of other places, is our latest “Law of Attraction” title. This one is a video that I am making in partnership with Knowing Entertainment Productions. We just wrapped our first full two days of production, and the “trailer” will be soon visible on our site and elsewhere on the web.

The Law of Attraction, which has been popularized so much by the movie “The Secret” is something that we can all use more of in our lives. I’ve been using it’s principles in my daily life and with my hypnotherapy clients for years. I thought it was a great idea that I get these things out to people in as big of a way as possible. Thus, the video.

What I noticed to be lacking in a lot of the “stuff” out there was a way for people to immediately and effectively, step by step, put the Law of Attraction to work for themselves. Rhetoric about it abounds everywhere I look, but the actual do “this”, “this”, and “this” is much harder to find. Our video will give you exactly that. The “How To”, that you can put into action immediately after watching. The step by step layout for manifesting changes.

It’s also worth mentioning here that the video is NOT an advertisement to buy more things or sign up for “courses”. It’s a complete, self-contained roadmap to success, wealth, love, health — whatever you decide you want in your life. It presents some old ideas, some new ideas, and some existing ideas with a new twist.

When the trailer is up on the site, we’ll let you know on here. Who knows, maybe you’ll even hear about it on, “Oprah”.

drryg01.jpg…about past life regression and future life progression…

Regression work involves going back in time to the origin or source of a problem or issue that is operative in your day to day life now. This may be to a previous time within the current life time or to an actual past life. Progression work involves moving ahead along the time line either to a later time in a current life, or to an entirely future life time. Of course, this is a very tricky concept, when you consider that our top physicists are now telling us that they are not at all sure about this past-present-future linear concept of time in the first place. If a person, for example, has a fear or phobia that is currently impeding their ability to live a normal life, it can be very helpful to use hypnosis to help that person re-access information that is stored in memory as to where and why that phobia or fear first came into play.

Future Life Progression Often times, traumatic events that take place often bring a form of amnesia with them about these events to protect the person from reliving the experience over and over again. Unfortunately, the effect, such as the fear or phobia will come through with no context to explain why it is there. Often, just recalling the origin is enough to enable the person to rightfully assign the reaction to that place, that time, and those circumstances, which then frees the individual to decide that the reaction is no longer useful in his or her current life and the phobia will generally disappear.
Past Life Regression Future life progression can be helpful in understanding how patterns that have been revealed within a person’s soul journey have evolved and will continue to evolve as they play out over time. It is also helpful in showing the individual the possible array of consequences or results that may derive from choices made in current time. Working with the future time line can be a wonderful adjunct to goal manifestation work for example. I am often asked about regression and progression work from those who are skeptical or unsure about what it entails. It is interesting that powerful changes in behavior can occur, even when the belief system in not in line with the idea of reincarnation. Perhaps these powerful effects can be ascribed to DNA memory or metaphoric and/or archetypal patterns that have been playing out in the person’s life, and which can now be changed or healed once they are revealed.

There are many provocative cases which offer ‘proof’ of successive lives and the debate goes on. For me the effect of this work is the most important area of focus. In my own life, it was a spontaneous past-life regression that instantly and permanently released three phobias I had had since early childhood. This experience led me to take training to become a hypnotherapist. This single regression had changed my life in many incredible ways. Since then, many more insights and changes have emerged from continuing work in this realm. I am content to leave the debate about reincarnation to others. If you are interested in exploring this work, I encourage you to find a good hypnotherpaist to work with.

For those who have some experience with trance work, you may be interested in the MP3 downloads available from the United Hypnotherapy store. If you have personal experiences with either regression or progression work that would help others understand the value of these techniques, please add a comment to this post. You may also be interested in checking out available recordings for Past Life Regression and Future Life progression at our store.

Castle-Rock.jpgPast Life Regression CDs/MP3s

drryg01.jpgIn this third post of the series, I would like to address the WHEN of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. This aspect incorporates two parts. Let’s look at the first part here.

Many times, at the end of our first session, a new client will ask me how often and when they should practice going into the alpha state. This answer will vary from person to person. As you read in Part One of this series, stress chemistry is generated while we are in the beta brain wave state. Since we tend to be in this state 99.999…% of the time we are awake (in our harried and stressed-out western culture), we are carrying a big load of stress chemistry in the system in an on-going way. Sleep does not efficiently clear out this chemistry, so it tends to accrue over time. This is what results in overwhelming stress which can represent in extreme cases as system breakdown in one or more of the dimensions of being. In other words, in the physical body you might have a breakdown in one or more body systems. This can be disorders such as asthma, IBS, high-blood pressure, lupus, or even more extreme conditions like heart attack, cancer, and stroke. In the mental aspect, you might have disorientation and ‘brain fog’ or a total mental breakdown. In the emotional aspect you may experience anxiety or phobias, or a complete nervous collapse.

You begin to see the range of effects of prolonged, unremitting stress upon the being. So the first step in determining when you should access into the alpha state is determining how high your stress load is. Once you have a sense of that, it will guide you in your practice. If you are already experiencing serious repercussions of your stress, then the answer will be ‘as often as you can every single day.’ This means looking for opportunity in your daily schedule and making opportunity. It is not something you do ‘when I have time.’ It becomes a priority. Remember, even short periods spent within the alpha state can have a tremendous benefit. When you learn to access this state quickly through consistent practice, then even a short break will provide a huge benefit. This will need to be practiced consistently throughout the day until the stress load has been brought down to a manageable level.

I personally feel that every one of us will benefit from a longer alpha session before going to sleep every night. The reason is that the stress chemistry interferes with the proper functioning of the organism during sleep, so it will facilitate the benefits of sleep if we ‘clear the decks’ first. For instance, if we are highly stressed and we take that stress to bed with us, it will prevent us from achieving into the deepest stage of sleep, called the delta state, or stage four of sleep. This is where the brain generates the Human Growth Hormone needed for repair and regeneration of the cells. This means that not only will healing take longer, but aging will be accelerated. This is only one small example of how stress can disrupt the work of our sleeping bodies.

Often, my ‘type A’ clients will protest that there is no way they can make this much time in their schedules for alpha practice on a daily basis. My response to this is two-fold. First, there is no way you can afford not to make this time. Secondly, the paradoxical thing is that the more time you make for alpha, the more time you will recoup in beta. This is because the alpha state will clear the mind and restore energy to the body, the net result being more focus, better prioritization, better problem-solving ability, more creative solution finding, and much more energy to implement your ideas and work.

So, to recap the first aspect of when to practice alpha, the idea is to commit to one longer session (twenty to thirty minutes or more) before sleep every day, with as many shorter (ten to twenty minute) segments as you need to bring down your stress load to a manageable range.

The second consideration on the WHEN of hypnosis and hypnotherapy is to look at when you want to consult with a professional to help you learn and utilize the many fabulous tools available for maximizing the internal resources of the subconscious mind for creating change in your life. The answer to this is simple: when ever you are ready to make a change for the better, when you are ready to commit to your success, when you are ready to act in your behalf, when you are ready to let go of being stuck, when you are ready to expand, learn, and grow, then you are ready to pick up the phone and make an appointment. I will leave you with a few words of wisdom on this now:

It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well.–Rene Descartes

The world we have made as a result of the level of thinking we have done thus far creates problems we cannot solve at the same level of thinking at which we created them.–Albert Einstein

Change only favours minds that are diligently looking and preparing for discovery.–Louie Pasteur

Headshot-good1-web.jpgI constantly get asked about effectiveness of subliminal recordings and scientific proof, and studies and things such as that. Many people are looking for me to cite clinical studies, or data collected by the scientific method, but I don’t do that.
I know what has worked for me and for my clients. “How” it works is another story altogether. I think that the “how” is irrelevant most of the time. I don’t need to know how a TV works in order to watch it, nor do I need to fully understand the internal combustion engine to drive my car.
I got the following question emailed to me, and i thought other people would be interested in it and the answer.

—-

Hi Rick,

I was surfing the net about Law Of Attraction and stumbled on your site. I read some things on Subliminal messages and there is ’supposedly’ scientific proof that subliminal messages do not work.

Since you are at the heart of it… what honestly have you noticed?

Please respond..very interested.

Mike

—-

Hi Mike,

I think it all depends on what studies you read and how they conducted it. Years ago, (before I was in this field myself) I ordered some subliminal tapes and used them. They seemed to work, but the company was very specific that I needed to keep the playback head of the cassette player de-gaussed or the tapes would lose their effectiveness. I don’t know if it was the power of suggestion or not, but they did seem to lose effectiveness over time.

Later, I ordered some affirmations tapes from a different company and repeated the affirmations out loud and they seemed to work well, but I wasn’t always in a place where I could do that, nor was it appropriate to listen to that type of thing (in offices around other people and such).

I searched for a long time for a “happy medium”, and was determined to find something that would work that was in between. What I found out in doing all that looking was that a lot of the subliminal audio that was out there truly didn’t work, because the subliminal part was recorded at a level that was not only beneath perception, but that was impossible to even register through people’s senses at all.

I got to where I didn’t trust anything out there if I couldn’t verify that there was actually something on it. Interestingly enough, I started my current business by adapting things I was doing to help myself to helping other people. In order to get the results I wanted, I developed my own type of subliminal recordings — for my own use for various things.
I know I’ve taken a long time answering your question, but what I actually noticed was that when I used the subliminals that I made myself with a different recording technique than all the others, they worked, and they gave me the results that I wanted.
Now honestly, I don’t know if it’s the power of suggestion, the placebo effect, or what, but they always work for me. The difficulty is that anything I say about it is purely subjective, but maybe that’s the whole point. The Law of Attraction is about feelings and emotions and attitudes, so if they (the subliminal CDs) are able to affect a change in attitude (no matter how that actually happens), then I guess they are working the way they need to.

When it all boils down to the end, as long as we achieve the results that we want, do we care how it happened?

Other people report the same results with listening to my subliminals.

I hope I answered your question… sorry I got long-winded :-)

Best Regards,
Rick McFall

drryg01.jpgThere are two separate aspects of the HOW of hypnosis. One is the how do you get into the hypnotic, or alpha state in the first place, and the other is how you work with it once you get there. Let’s consider the first aspect briefly. There are many ways to get into the alpha state, and probably every hypnotist and every Hypnotherapist will have their own favorite ways of helping or teaching clients to access this state. Fixed-eye inductions are what most people think of when they think of hypnosis. These are the ever popular ‘stare at this spot….’ or ‘look at the spinning disk…’ or ‘follow my hand with your eyes…’ type of induction techniques. This is also what tends to happen in ‘highway hypnosis’ which is why you want to keep your eyes moving when you are driving to stay alert. This type of technique works pretty well for people who are visually-organized. However, not everyone processes information primarily through the visual channel, so there are many other techniques as well. Because the way I work is to teach my clients how to access this state on their own, I prefer to have them close their eyes and do a progressive relaxation, leading into visualization. This technique brings in auditory, visualizing, kinesthetic, and olfactory cueing as well. When I am working directly with a client, I will ‘load’ the sequence with their particular modalities. On CD, I spread it across the board so that the most people will get the most benefit. Let’s move on to talk about the second aspect of the HOW of hypnosis.

When we talk about how to work with hypnosis, we are now into the realm of hypnotherapy. It is one thing to get into the alpha state; it is another to know what to do once you get there. This is where working with a trained Hypnotherapist can make all the difference for a client who desires to make specific changes in targeted areas of his or her life. The client and the Hypnotherapist comprise the WHO of hypnotherapy. Many skills are involved in successful hypnotherapy. For a brief overview article on this, please see http://www.transformfast.com/tools_of_the_hypnotherapist.htm. Here, let me just mention a few of the procedures that may be employed to illustrate the broad range of techniques that are available.

  • One of the most basic tools is called a ‘reframe.’ What this means is simply helping the client shift their perspective to see their issue from different points of view. This is more easily achieved in the alpha state than in ordinary awareness because the ego is less dominant. The alpha state provides for an ‘expanded’ awareness that can see more options and possibilities than are normally apparent.

  • Sometimes, the Hypnotherapist will work with metaphors or archetypes to help the client understand their situation in the context of a parallel or larger story.

  • In other cases, the technique will be working with aspects or parts of self which may be in conflict, by helping the client ‘broker a deal,’ which can provide a context for all the parts to be in alignment.

  • Time Line work is another modality for working with patterns and unresolved issues, sometimes by helping the client trace the roots from the past and ‘projecting’ the results into the future to see probable outcomes if change does not occur in the now.

  • At times, working in the trance state can be similar to working within a waking dream with the sub-conscious guiding the unfolding of the understanding within the client. In such cases, the role of the Hypnotherapist is to ask skillful open-ended questions which are carefully timed to continue providing opportunity for the unfolding process to expand.

Each client and each issue is unique. No one technique will work across the board. This is why the Hypnotherapist must be able to tailor every session to the person and the circumstances presented. The few techniques briefly outlined here represent a very tiny sampling of the various methods which may come into play within a session.

This is why, when choosing a Hypnotherapist to work with, you want to find someone who continually upgrades their skills. This is not a profession for someone who wants to work in a routine manner. Because hypnotherapy deals primarily with the sub-conscious mind, and the ‘operating system’ of this aspect of the consciousness field is very different from that of the conscious mind, it is truly a dissimilar therapeutic model from standard ‘talk’ therapy with a counselor or psychiatrist.

In my next post, I will discuss the WHEN of hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

drryg01.jpgI can generally tell by the way people react when I tell them what I do whether they truly know something about hypnosis or whether they have a lot of misconceptions about it. People who actually know something about hypnosis ask me interested questions and we then have a great conversation. People who are holding a lot of misconceptions tend to get a glazed look, a frozen expression, and start sidling away as fast as they can, as if they have just discovered that I am some kind of evil sorceress! Because there are still so many misconceptions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy out there, I decided to write this series of posts, and hopefully clear up some of this stuff, if not once and for all (wouldn’t that be nice?), at least for you curious readers who have ventured thus far. So, here is WHAT hypnosis is:

  • It is the best method for accessing into the alpha state of consciousness. The alpha state is simply an AWAKE, inwardly-focused, deeply relaxed state of awareness. It is one of the normal states of consciousness we all experience, and it is where the true relaxation response is generated. Generally, we tend to pass into and out of this state very quickly in our rushed and busy lives. Hypnosis is one way to access into this state deliberately with the intent of relaxing, harnessing our internal resources, and developing our focus. Since the alpha state is part of our original design blueprint, so to speak, and since it is the organism’s best ally in balancing our stress load, it is curious to me that so many people subvert the wisdom of the design (and the designer?) by deliberately avoiding the alpha state.
  • Hypnosis is a healing modality that has been recognized by the American Medical Association since 1958. It is an incredibly powerful agent for relieving stress, managing pain, speeding healing and recover from surgery, releasing phobias and anxiety, lifting depression, facilitating healthful sleep, letting go of bad habits and instilling good habits, reducing blood pressure, addressing skin conditions that do not respond to standard therapies, bringing babies into the world in a peaceful and relaxed way, and so much more.
  • Hypnosis is safe. Those in the alpha state retain control of their minds and only accept suggestions that they wish to accept. Mind control is one of the ‘fears’ many people have about hypnosis. The irony is that a consistent alpha practice will only strengthen your mind and your own control over your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It also provides insight, understanding, and protection against the insidious forms of ‘mass programming’ that happen to us culturally and societally, through advertising, propaganda, biased news reporting, faulty educational agendas and more. The kind of mind control that some few people mistakenly associate with hypnosis is only achievable through torture and extreme brainwashing techniques.
  • Besides being the key to unlocking the relaxation response, hypnosis is also the best tool we have for effecting personal growth and achieving what we desire for ourselves in our health, our careers, our relationships, our spiritual development, and in all aspects of our lives.
  • Among hypnotherapists, the saying goes: ‘ALL hypnosis is self-hypnosis.’ What this means is that you must be a willing subject in order to access into the alpha state. Someone cannot come up to you and put you into a trance unless you are willing at some level to allow that. I personally teach all my clients in their first session to access into this state on their own. This is YOUR birthright. It is YOUR best tool, best ally, and best defense in a stressful and demanding world. When my clients learn to get themselves into this state on their own, successive sessions can be spent doing targeted work on specific issues, and again, I teach my clients to use those tools for themselves as well.
  • Hypnosis is something virtually anyone can learn. Some people will say “my mind is too strong, I am not a good subject.” This kind of statement reflects a poor understanding of what is going on with hypnosis. Actually, the poorest subjects are those who have mental impairments which make it difficult to understand and follow directions, and those people who are so fearful that they are unwilling to flow with the process. Intelligent people who are able to understand the value of learning this technique have no difficulty in doing so. Remember, it is a normal part of your consciousness range. You flow in and out of it whether you realize it or not. The process of learning self-hypnosis is simply to bring your intent to it and practice sustaining the state long enough to gain the benefits of it.

Hypnosis (remember: self-hypnosis) offers a direct path into the sub-conscious mind. When we are outwardly involved with the world around us we are in the beta brain wave state (where we experience the stress response) and in our conscious, analytical minds. When we utilize the pathway of hypnosis, we release the focus on the distractions of the outer world, and we bring our awareness to the inner spaces of our consciousness, into the subconscious field. The subconscious is not only a repository of past memories and programming, it is also a profound internal resource for shaping our present life and our future.

The brain wave state and the area of consciousness comprise the WHERE of the hypnosis issue. The HOW comprises the thousands of tools and techniques that can be utilized within this state to effect change. I will address the HOW, the WHO, and the WHEN of the hypnosis issue in future posts. For now, I just want to clarify some things that hypnosis is NOT:

  • It is not woo-woo or voo-doo. (Remember, it is a NORMAL part of the consciousness spectrum built into our basic design, and we flow into and out of this state whether we are aware of it or not.)
  • It is not NEW AGE. Although the term ‘hypnosis’ was not coined until the late 1890’s, accessing into the alpha state is as old as mankind itself.
  • It is NOT what you see in stage hypnosis acts. REMEMBER: everyone participating in those stage shows on any level is there for one purpose and one purpose alone– entertainment. We all know that the entertainment value is in the wacko stuff some volunteers will be doing up on the stage. Those who volunteer wish to do such wacko stuff at some level or they would not raise their hands. Once up on the stage, the desire not to be the ‘killjoy,’ ‘party-pooper,’ or ‘wet blanket ‘ will be more than sufficient motivation to elicit the desired behavior whether they are ‘hypnotized’ or not.
  • It is not ‘weird,’ ‘dangerous,’ ‘out there,’ ‘mind-control,’ for the ‘weak-minded,’ or ‘fake.’

Hypnosis is empowering, relaxing, safe, fun, simple, effective, and transformative! It is for people who want to have more control over their own minds, emotions, and behaviors. It is for intelligent and motivated people who want to improve their lives utilizing their own innate resources. It is the best way to access one’s inner wisdom, as well as the creative, imaginal, visionary, and intuitive aspects of consciousness. It is the best way to access into the neutral perspective where you can access multiple points of view so that you can be at CHOICE in your life, rather than at EFFECT. At its most basic, it is the most powerful tool for addressing stress in a normal and healthful way that is available to us. Since stress is the common denominator across every aspect of our lives, hypnosis is a tool that can bring us benefits regardless of what the issues are.

Headshot-good1-web.jpgYou may want to begin with Part One of this article if you haven’t already done so. The bottom line answer to why people are overweight is because they rarely deal with the real issue. The real “purpose” for the weight being there.

In hypnotherapy, I guide my clients to the purpose of the weight being there. Then I guide them to “healing” that particular issue. Once they do that, the weight no longer serves a purpose, and it does begin to go away all by itself. It’s just like running a race and breathing hard. Once the race is over, and there is no need for extra oxygen, a person’s breathing returns to normal all by itself. Is that magical? It all depends on your perspective I guess. A lot of people I work with look at the whole hypnotic process as being magical because it all happens so fast.

So to wrap everything up a bit here, I’d say that weight loss isn’t about weight at all. Weight loss is about personal growth and inner healing. The weight is just a symptom of something else going on in a person’s life that needs some attention.

When a smoke alarm goes off, it’s not about the annoying sound that comes out of it that’s important. It’s about what’s causing it to go off in the first place. If there is a fire, we need to put the fire out, and the smoke alarm will become silent all by itself after a while. Stop treating weight like it’s the ear piercing noise of the alarm, and go put out the fire instead. It will give you the permanent results that you’ve been looking for all along and will bring a lot more happiness into your life.

drryg01.jpgConsidering the principles of hypnotherapy and NLP, as well as the Universal Law of Attraction, it is important from a weight management perspective to watch your focus, not your weight. When we say to ourselves “I must lose this weight,” the subconscious mind picks up on your focus on weight, and helpfully obliges you by bringing you more of what you are focusing on (weight). It (your subconscious) makes no distinction on which way you are focusing on it, it simply perceives that you are very involved with that weight and therefore you must want more of it. Then, it obliges you by adding more pounds.

This is exactly the same principle behind how the Law of Attraction works in a universal sense. In other words, the abundant universe will also line up to give you more of what you are focusing on in just the same way. It will bring you plenty of opportunities to eat more, to eat those things you believe are fattening, to be inactive instead of active and so on. It will also team up with your subconscious mind and really pack those pounds on. (From certain perspectives, your subconscious mind and the abundant universe can be perceived as the being same thing anyway.)

Instead of focusing on your weight, focus on health. Focus on having energy and freedom of movement and flexibility. Focus on wearing some favorite outfit to a special event and feeling and looking fabulous. Focus on the emotions of being happy with yourself and having fun in the world. Step into a positive and healthy, energetic vision of yourself. See out of those happy eyes, hear the vibrant world through your ecstatic ears, feel the feelings of being and having what you truly want.

acryg98mgd1d101.jpgPut another way, what you are truly wanting is not ‘weight loss.’ What you are truly wanting is to be healthy so you can enjoy life, to be at an appropriate weight which allows you to be happy, energetic, feeling attractive and so forth. Behind all of this is really the ultimate goal everyone has for themselves, which is to be happy. To be in a state of BLISS. This is what we crave at the core of being. So focus on that, and take your mind off the weight.

Does this mean to stop caring about your health and about eating appropriately of healthy food in healthy amounts? And stop caring about moving your body in a healthy way? Of course not. But, what I am saying here is shift the focus on these things. Do these things because you love yourself and your body and wish to make sure that you have all the best things in the best amounts to provide the best care for yourself. Focus on doing these things because they are part of having a healthy happy life which you love. Stop doing them because you think you HAVE TO do them to lose weight.

Oh, what’s that you’re saying? Weight? Did I hear ‘weight’ again? You don’t have enough, you’re still focused on that? Always with you, it’s ‘blah blah weight this, blah blah weight that.’ A thousand times a day, that’s all you think about. Weight, weight, weight, weight, weight. Well, here you go, have some more!

drryg01.jpgA woman I was working with lately mentioned that she prays for peace everyday. As she said this, there was anguish in her face. Like many of us, she is deeply concerned about the conflicts and suffering in the world. This ‘praying for peace’ is something many people do on a regular basis. However, one thing that strikes me about this is that by ‘praying for peace’ we may actually be focusing on the lack of peace in the world, and by focusing on that, we can then feel a lack of peace within ourselves. I know that focusing on this certainly creates anxiety and a lack of peace within me.

Perhaps peace is something that we can create in the world by bringing ourselves into a state of peace. The more ‘at peace’ we are, the more we may generate the consciousness of peace around us, and the more peace can be generated on a larger scale. It is difficult to generate world peace when we have so few people on the planet who are ‘at peace’ within themselves in a consistent way. When we say ‘Lord, bring us peace’ or even ‘Let there be peace in the world,’ this is actually a plea to provide that which we do not have, so in this way we are reflectively focusing backward, onto the ‘lack of peace’ which initiated our plea in the first place.

From the perspective of the Spiritual Law of Attraction, which is, simply stated, that you create more of that which you are focused upon, I wonder if it might not be more effective if we were to ‘pray’ from the perspective of gratitude rather than suplication? I wonder if we might not find peace within by giving thanks for our peace? And, I wonder if experiencing peace within might not generate more peace on a larger scale? I know for myself, as I have been repeating this ‘thank you for my peace’ quite often over the course of the last few days, that I do feel more at peace within myself.

I am wondering if anyone else would be interested in just trying this way of ‘praying’ for peace, as a gratitude practice. No matter what is going on in my life, I find that just stopping a moment and saying ‘thank you for my peace,’ I automatically feel better. I believe that it is possible that WE (the big collective WE of the world) will only find peace when we (the you and I individuals of the world) find and know our own inner peace.

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?” ~William A. Ward

Rick Reynolds, CCHTWarning: the side effect of a balanced happy brain can be a dramatic shift in the size and shape of your body! This is the true story of how I released 40 pounds last fall and have kept it off through nutritional cleansing.

Ten years ago I became the executive producer for a major market morning news show. My crazy schedule helped me gain 55 pounds in six month. My skin turned a slightly ugly shade of gray and for the first time in my life I was actually looking my age. Before I gained the weight

It’s amazing what stress will do to your body. The morning program didn’t last but I ended up running the stations entire news operation and taking on more stress and a little more weight.Me at my heaviest 225

In 2001 with the ratings on the rise and my career taking off, I left the business and the stress and became a Hypnotherapist.

Slowly about 17 pounds came off but at 208 pounds I still didn’t look nor feel like my true self.

Hypnotherapy had helped me feel great about my bigger body, and healed my life in many many ways, yet I was still out of balance.

Those months working the overnight shift had not yet been erased. Yet as I did the Hypnotherapy I began to experience an urge to just cleanse my body and my entire life.

The day I started the cleanseThat was when I stumbled into John Gray’s new work. I like so many of us had read “Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus.” and could really identify with all those behaviors men and women seem to fall into.

But thanks to a recent health crisis John Gray had discovered a huge error in his life’s work. Men didn’t have to act like they were from Mars and Women didn’t have to always behave like they’re from Venus. All those behaviors are symptoms of unbalanced brain chemistry caused by a lack of trace minerals and balanced nutrients in the body.

You can change your brain chemistry by changing your thought patterns with Hypnosis, coaching or even psychotherapy. Or you can change the things you put in your body and watch your chemicals change your thoughts. Or you can do both!

John's book

I read John’s “Mars, Venus, Diet and Exercise Solution” and skipped ahead to the instructions and jumped right into his nine day cleansing program.

Day one of the cleanseDruing my first cleanse I lost 10 pounds and felt a huge inner shift. I waited a week and did it again. There went another 15 pounds. I waited two weeks and did it again and there went another ten pounds.

I added a liver detox and a parasite cleanse on my own and felt like my entire body had been restored. I have my 160 pound body back. I fit in my 30 inch waist jeans… and I need to have my 38 inch suit pants tailored.

I will turn 46 this summer and I look and feel at least ten years younger. My old coworkers don’t even recognize me.

Mid way through my cleansesMy clients want to know exactly what I did and how they too can do it.

But what I tell them and everyone who will listen is that this isn’t about the weight. It’s about restoring the balance to my body and my brain and my life.

The weight loss has just been a side effect. My cravings for junk food, sweets, and between meal After 8 weeks of cleansingsnacks are gone.

I have a whole new appreciation to food. I can now feel an instant reaction to the food I put in my body. If my body wants and needs it, it feels good. If it’s not right for my body I feel it.

My skin has cleared up. My hair is softer. My breath smells better. I have more energy. I sleep better. I don’t even snore as much. My heart burn is gone.

Just as the last of the weight was coming off, I discovered the world leader in nutritional cleansing and a way that my clients, friends and family could repeat my success without having to read John’s book and buy a bunch of different cleanses. Before I started the cleanse

I now help coach people through a simple cleanse with products from this company and guess what? I even got to meet my new business partner, John Gray. And he’s not the only amazing business partner I now have. I’m now working with Jack Canfield of “Chicken Soup for the Soul” fame and a team of amazing healers and health care professionals.
Since switching to these cleansing products and flooding my body with nutrition I’m now not only thinner and balanced… but I feel better than I ever thought I could. It really wasn’t until I started feeling this good that I realized just how bad I had been feeling most of the time. We get so used to the way a body full of junk feels that we don’t even realize what is possible.
I now experience moments of bliss out of the blue. It usually hits a few minutes into exercise or when I’m out for a walk. My heart opens, I feel a sense of joy and I just get this uncontrollable urge to smile. Me at Disneyland

My clients who are now on the cleanse are not only looking great and losing weight but are experiencing the benefits of Hypnotherapy at a faster rate. Now that the impurities are out of their systems the self transformation work is easier and the all around changes in their lives are even more profound.

By following my link, you can order any of the cleansing or nutrient rich products. You can even become your own distributor and make some money helping people heal their bodies and their lives. Before you order anything, give me a call. I’ve actually gotten really good at helping people figure out which cleanse will work best for them.
I think it is important to do a subconscious cleanse at the same time. Purging your mind of all those unhealthy thought patterns that had you turning to food for comfort, love, safety etc.

TranceBreakers Class OneYou can cleanse your mind much the same way I did by following my TranceBreaker Hypnotic Experiences. I’ve created a series of 21 Hypnotic recordings that are designed to cleanse ever aspect of your life.

They begin with “You Deserve To Be Here” this will help get you ready for any cleanse be reaffirming your deservedness, because after all you do deserve a thinner body and a balanced brain and life.

The trances are sold individually in MP3’s or CD’s or you can buy them in sets of three. Each set is organized around issues as they relate to the Chakras or energy centers in the body.

I suggest listening to each recording once a day for at least three days if not a week before moving on to the next. Don’t skip any of the first three recordings they’re essential to an effective cleanse. TranceBreakers class two promotes Deep and Complete Self Acceptance. With out that you’re just wasting your time. And TranceBreakers class number three will free you from poverty consciousness and help you begin to manifest more of what you want in your life.

The second Chakra trances cleanse your feeling center allowing you to both heal negative feelings and at the same time getting you in touch with exactly how you feel. This also cleanses what ever trauma, drama, guilt or shame you associate with sex.

The third Chakra trances are your chance to purge yourself of being a victim, this is an essential part of a cleanse. You’ll learn in a subconscious way the art of setting boundaries and experience the power that only exists in this moment.

The fourth Chakra journeys will cleanse your heart so that when you are ready you too will experience the same bliss I’ve been having. The trances promote a deeper sense of self love and a true experience of unconditional love.

The fifth Chakra journeys cleanse away the blocks to speaking your truth and communicating with your higher self.

Sixth Chakra trances open cleanse away the toxic thoughts that cloud the way you see the world. People who listen to these trances report an opening to their intuition and a freedom from taking everything so personally. It’s a chance to open your mind to new ways of thinking and being in the world.

The seventh Chakra trances cleanse your connection to the divine. This series allows you to balance your masculine and feminine energies so that you can connect more fully with the part of you that is eternal and divine. It also helps you to shift past what for many is the ultimate fear, the fear of death.

None of these trances is specifically for weight loss because weight loss is only a symptom of a toxic mind. All of these trances are designed to cleanse your mind of toxic thoughts. A side effect is weight loss, and when you couple the trances with the Isagenix cleanse the weight comes off both quickly and easily.

You too can have the same experience I and my clients are having.

I work with people all over the country over the phone, doing hypnosis and life coaching to help them become their true selves and in the process create their true bodies. Perhaps I can even help you.

drrar01-new.jpgSo how do you super charge your affirmations? I use a technique that involves recording them and creating a chorus of my own voice and then listening to it every day for a few minutes.

First you will want to write out your affirmations and put them through a feeling test to make sure every word fills you with positive feelings, images and sensations. Then record them. It helps to have at least three minutes worth of affirmations. You will be surprised how long three minutes is.

You can record this directly onto your PC or Mac with microphone or record it on a digital recorder and upload the file to your computer. Then using an audio editing program you can loop your affirmations so that you have 15 minutes of solid affirmations. You can save this loop as one track and lay it down again starting it 15 to 20 seconds after your first loop. I have done this where I’ve added it over and over again until I have more than 80 versions of my reciting my affirmations playing at the same time. I then turn the volume of the affirmations down and mix in some relaxing music.

The Love TrancesThe result is an amazingly powerful hypnotic journey. I did this for a client with cancer. She listened to her affirmations at least once a day every day for over a year. I watched in amazement as everything she affirmed began to come true in her life. One of her affirmations was that people would be looking at her bald head because she was so attractive and it was so sexy. She forgot that this was on her tape and came in one day telling me how even with her bald head men were hitting on her. Her affirmation was working even though she didn’t even remember it was on her tape.

If you need some good audio software for creating multiple track audio, there’s a shareware program for free called audacity that works on PC’s and is very effective for a project like this.

Here’s a link to download it. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

If you use a Mac your garage band program can create multiple tracks and is just as easy to use as Audacity. You may need to buy a new version of I-life that includes garage band if you are using an older mac.

You can do all this without a computer the old fashioned way, cutting and splicing audio tape. That can take forever and there’s no room for errors. Once the tape is cut, it is cut.

You can also purchase affirmation recordings right here on United Hypnotherapy. As you listen to a Hypnotherapy recording that includes positive suggestions and affirmations, try repeating the suggestion to yourself as you hear it. This can make the experience even more powerful.

Happy manifesting!

Headshot-good1-web.jpgIf you’ve read Part 1 of this article, you are beginning to understand that I really don’t care “why” people are overweight because it truly doesn’t matter. A good prospect for what DOES matter though, is “What purpose is served by being overweight?” The “purpose” of the weight is a whole different story and gets us a whole different answer.

A lot of the answers to the “purpose” question are a bit shocking when we hear them, but the examples I’m giving are all real ones that came up with clients of mine. Here are a few:

“If I’m overweight, I’ll be undesirable, and if I’m undesirable I won’t get into an intimate relationship. If I don’t get into an intimate relationship I can’t get hurt. So the weight prevents me from getting hurt in a relationship.”

“I don’t deserve to be happy because I’m a bad person, and being overweight makes me unhappy. The weight serves as punishment for my being a bad person.”

“Being overweight makes me bigger so that I can be seen. People never noticed me before, so the weight serves the purpose of making me big enough that they see me now.”

“People hurt me when they get close to me, so the weight serves as a physical barrier to keep people at a distance.”

acrpm99lwe1d301.jpgThere are as many “purposes” for the weight as there are people who have a weight problem, but this gives you a slight idea of what types of things come up. Weight as punishment for something, and weight as protection “from” something are the two main underlying themes in most purposes for being overweight. Oddly enough, almost every purpose that has come to light with my clients has had some sense of logic to it.

OK… so let’s say that we found out the purpose of the weight or of being overweight. Let’s say that the purpose is to make the person undesirable so that they won’t get into a relationship where they will get hurt. Now what? We found the purpose, so does everything magically resolve itself and the weight problem goes away all by itself? Nope…

Let’s look at the purpose again. Chances are that part of the reason this person wants to lose weight in the first place is so that they CAN have an intimate, loving, caring, relationship. (Which they CAN do without losing the weight, but that’s a whole different topic). So the purpose of the weight is a purpose that they don’t want the weight to serve anymore, and THAT is important. All of a sudden, the weight has lost it’s purpose for being there. NOW is the weight going to magically disappear all by itself? Probably not.

Headshot-good1-web.jpgIt’s a simple question, with a simple answer.

Q: Why are people overweight?

A: Because they eat to much, and don’t exercise enough.

The problem is, that’s not the question that matters, and if that question isn’t the one that matters, then the answer probably isn’t all that important either.

Working with thousands of hypnotherapy clients, I have noticed that most people are focused on the “Why” questions all the time. In fact, many of my clients were “expert” at determining the “whys” of what they did long before they ever came to see me. For instance, I would hear stories of their abuse when they were younger, and that they ate food to feel comfort. So the answer to the “why was that client overweight?” was “because she ate to feel comfort.” Overeating is often associated with all sorts of feelings that people are trying to cover up, and the emphasis has usually been on finding out “why” the person feels that way. So what happens is that people go into therapy to discover all the “whys” in their life. “Why are they frightened by authority figures?”, “Why are they nervous in crowds?”, “Why do they overeat?” and on and on… why? Why? WHY?

My answer to all of that, in all seriousness, is: “Who Cares?” Really… It’s kind of like this story:

acrpm99lwe1d301.jpgA guy was driving down the road and got lost. When he realized he was lost, he looked for and found a landmark. Then he got his map out and found the landmark and his position on the map. He knew where he wanted to go, and he could figure out how to get there quite easily on the map, BUT instead, he spent all of his time trying to figure out how he got there in the first place. Rather than driving to his destination, he sat right there struggling and straining to find out how he got here.

The only thing that’s important to me in that story is, “Where is he now?” and “Where does he want to go?”. That’s all we need to know to help him move forward. It doesn’t matter in the least how he got there.

If we take the story a bit further, we could imagine someone coming along and seeing the guy’s frustration and offering to help. When asked what the problem is, our lost motorist replies, “I don’t know how I got here. Can you help me figure out how I got here?”

Now if it was me who chanced upon this guy, I’d politely tell him, “Yes, I can help you figure that out, but I won’t. What I will do, though, is help you get to where you want to go.”

So… does it matter “why” the guy was lost? No… He just was. Does it matter “why” someone is overweight? No… they just are.

draam01.jpgWhen Deborah came to the Sacramento Lightworkers for a healing, we talked about changing her contract. Diagnosed with a fatal disease called pulmonary fibrosis, Deborah was told by her doctors that there was no chance for a medical cure. For over a year, Deborah, a middle-aged wife and mother of a twenty-one year old daughter, would wake from sleep to painful coughing fits, sometimes so powerful that she broke ribs and had to be hospitalized.

Courageous, unafraid to die, Deborah also believed that there was hope. We talked about how she had contracted for this disease–how her getting this disease was for the highest good–but how, now that she had experienced the disease, perhaps it wasn’t necessary to experience death because of it. In an instant, if she believed, and if it was for her highest good, Deborah could change her contract. She could write a new one, learning how to live with her disease, possibly reversing it altogether.

acaam01rsh1d105.jpgWith that in mind, we lightworkers went to work on Deborah, knowing that we could not cure her, but that we could give her the energy to heal herself, if that is what she and her higher self decided was for the highest good. We worked with Deborah for about an hour and a half, each of us in their own way. I like to use a Reiki Sound technique called the Kotodama. I prefer to use this technique while the client is standing, so I was allowed the honor of going first. Then we all joined together, creating a wonderful experience. The positive energy was so strong. The potential for healing, unlimited.

When Deborah awoke the next day, she didn’t notice that she wasn’t coughing, but her husband did. By noon, when she hadn’t so much as coughed once, her husband Scott, couldn’t contain himself any longer. “Do you realize you haven’t coughed since you woke up?” Scott asked Deborah. It still hadn’t dawned on her until he mentioned it, I think, because her healing was so natural, her body forgot that it had been ill.

Soon Deborah was painting her house, free from bedridden days and free of the terrible pain. Her doctors were amazed and warned her to be very careful. Deb’s new attitude allowed her to shake off negative programming from well meaning but prejudiced sources. Choosing her own, new contract, Deborah reclaimed her health, and has gone back to work as a Hospice Nurse. She still has lesions. Maybe they have more to teach her. Perhaps in time they will disappear. For now, Deborah is healthy. She proved that all contracts can be rewritten. Deborah also gave the lightworkers who worked and continue to be with her a miracle to hold on to. Namaste

Headshot-good1-web.jpgWhen working on anything in the personal growth area (especially the “Law of Attraction”), there are several powerful methods of helping focus your mind. One of the most powerful ways is to do what is called “Vision-Boarding”.

Think of a vision board as a poster/collage of what you want in you life. That keeps it fairly simple, and will aid you in making it. So here’s what you do:

First, imagine what it would “feel like” if you already had everything in life that you wanted - and I mean everything. No matter what it is that you want, imagine what it would feel like if you had it, and then hang onto that feeling.
Look through magazines, or go through some of your photographs, or search on the internet for photos/images of things that represent that feeling you want to “feel” in your life. If it’s feeling financially secure, perhaps you’ll get some pictures of piles of money, or gold, or limousines - anything that represents to you what financial security feels like. Try to stay focused on the feelings part of it, but just do the best you can, and let your mind take over if it wants to.

acryg98mgd1d101.jpgWhen you have a whole bunch of pictures either printed out, or cut out, or collected, arrange them on a poster board and put it in a spot where you will be able to look at it and meditate about it. You might want to add some words to the vision board as well (for anything you think might need a bit of emphasis).

When it’s all done and hanging where you want it, look at it… take a few deep breaths… and allow yourself to “feel” what it feels like to have all of those things on your vision board. Just pretend if you have to, but do your best to actually feel it. Do that everyday, and watch and be amazed as things from your vision board begin to magically appear in your life.

Many people I know have done this, and after a while they forget about it and go about their normal day to day activities. At some point later, though, they come back and look at their vision board and notice many of the things they put on the board have been “manifested” into their lives. It truly is amazing stuff…

drnic01.jpgI saw the movie, the Secret because my golf coach called me one day and told me to get and watch it as soon as possible. He had so much excitement behind his voice I had to get it. I watched it once and because I study all of that stuff I wasn’t all that impressed. I put it away, but when I would tell my coach problems I was having with my game or my life he directed me towards the movie again and told me I wasn’t watching it enough. I began to watch it everyday. I began to meditate for hours creating the life I wanted. I made a vision board and looked at it everyday. I kept the emotions in my heart as if I had everything I wanted. Nothing happened.

Three months later my whole situation had changed. I moved to Palm Springs which I absolutely love because of the weather and the golf courses. I have drawn many wonderful clients and friends into my life. I am financially wealthy and live on a great golf course. I am doing what I love, furthering my education and expanding my golf business. I have a great spiritual group called the Course in Miracles that I meet with once a week. I have much free-time and look and feel great. My emotions are at peace and I feel great about my future. Everything seems to be inflow as I allow the laws of attraction to work for me. Everyday seems to be an adventure and everyday I am more and more grateful for the wonderful world I live in.

I still often watch the movie for check ups and to continue making my dreams come true. The trick is to not get discouraged if everything does not happen all at once. It’s very important to keep that knowing in your heart that your dreams are a reality and in the process of becoming true. The laws of attraction really work. Miracles can happen!

golf.jpgGolf Hypnotherapy CDs/MP3s

drnic01.jpgI had a client yesterday who was interested in help mentally for his golf game. He was a 7 handicap but it had jumped to a 15 when he started to take golf lessons. He’s finally found a teacher he is satisfied with, but is still struggling with the mental side of the game. He had much to tell me and was very excited about finding a golf psychology consultant in the area.

I thought I would point out some issues that seem to be common in today’s society. I look at it as a western/eastern spiritual approach to the game. Much of the time the people that I work with have a very western- Type A personality approach to the golf game. Often times they have made it successfully in their businesses and other sports by working extremely hard. Often times this approach does not work in their golf game. They come to me frustrated and determined to get it right. With this, I try to get them to understand that working hard is great for wanting to improve their golf game, but the mentality of working hard often produces poor results because of tension in the golf swing equals high sores.

acnic98lyg1d101.jpgWith this client I worked on breathing exercises. He was talking as if propelled by a motor. His energy was very excited but it was coming out all over the place. He needed to be more centered and calm deep within himself. We worked on breathing. Often times just reminded him to breathe down deep into his stomach seemed to channel his energy and calm him down a bit.
He also tended to beat himself up a bit which leads to piling more strokes on. When someone gets emotional like this a technique called EFT is great. This is done with a series of tapping while repeating out loud, “Even though I feel like beating myself up, I deeply love and respect myself.” This also calmed him down a lot.

A lot of people in our culture also have a hard time staying in the present. That is why practicing staying in the present throughout the day is so important. Often times people are regretting over the past or anxious or excited about the future. The key to playing great golf is staying in the present. Taking a deep breath and just noticing how you are in a given moment can help you develop your presence in the moment.

Seeing someone who is trained in these areas that can help point out key points while you talk to them can quickly bring lots of awareness to your growth and journey into yourself and your golf game. Hypnosis takes it even deeper because it works with a deeper state of awareness. So when I hypnotize him I will write about that. Happy Golfing!

golf.jpgGolf Hypnotherapy CDs/MP3s

I’ve had many clients over the years who find themselves in relationships that are sexually out of balance. One partner wants sex the other partner doesn’t. It’s amazing how much stress something like this can put on the relationship.

The partner who wants sex and is rebuffed ends up feeling rejected and the rejecting partner can end up feeling guilty and angry and wanting sex even less.

This issue is more common than most of my clients in this situation realize. Part of the issue is that they think they’re the only ones to have faced this problem and some go years without ever discussing it to anyone.

I’ve noticed that this issue is particularly true of couples with young children. The woman may spend all day having children touching her and surrendering her personal boundaries to the needs of her kids for affection and touch. Then when her husband goes to touch her she flinches or pulls away.

The husband not being touched all day by his kids, has no clue as to what is going on and jumps right into a state of rejection. Why does my wife not enjoy physical intimacy any more? What am I doing wrong? Why has everything changed?

Communication is the key to restoring balance to any relationship. In the above example it is helpful for the wife to share what it is like to have little ones tugging and pulling and hugging and grabbing all day long. This creates a dialogue and an opportunity for both partners to discover a way to ignite passion and over come the over touch experience created by the kids.

With all issues in a relationship communication is the answer. But talking about sex can be embarrassing, awkward, and difficult for many couples. I encourage my clients to keep a sense of humor as they explore sexual issues with their partner. It doesn’t have to be heavy. Being able to laugh especially about your own issues is often a really healthy approach to the topic.

Good sex is about sharing pleasure and passion. Yet so many of my clients have no real idea of how exactly to pleasure their partners. They don’t know what turns their partners on, only what turns them off. They don’t know their partners fantasies, the type of touch they prefer, or how to really give them pleasure. Most couples in my practice with sexual issues in their relationship don’t even talk about such things.

The first step here is knowing what you want, like and need from a sexual relationship. Sex is best when it is a little selfish. Many people find that what turns them on the most is experiencing their partner lost in passion and ecstasy. In order to be lost in passion and ecstasy one must put their own needs first. With sex it is possible for both couples to do this at the same time. When they do, the intensity of the experience is off the charts.

Ron & Denny ReynoldsMy parents who are both Certified Hypnotherapists have devoted an entire chapter of their book, “The Art of Relationship, The New Perspective” to helping couples discover their sexual passion and communicate it to each other.

They advice couples to explore sensuality rather than sexuality and have three interesting exercises to help each person discover what “turns them on” and how to communicate that to his or her partner.Art of Relationship Book Cover

Many of my clients have followed my parents exercises and I’ve watched it improve their relationships and help restore the sexual desire balance. But many also encounter guilt and shame so strong that it keeps them from even reading the chapter.

I’ve found that in order to really enjoy any pleasure it helps to let go of guilt and shame. For years now I’ve been leading groups and individual clients through a shame release process. I call it “The Pleasure Trip” and I’ve recently recorded the process so that anyone can begin to free themselves from guilt and shame.

Pleasure TripReleasing guilt and shame around pleasure and sex makes communicating with a partner effortless and easy. Sex is natural. Sex is beautiful. Sex is the ultimate act of creation. We are most god like when we are being sexual. If any of these words offend you, or push your buttons, then perhaps there is some shame to release.

Once your really get that you have a right to feel intense pleasure and sexual passion, that such feelings are natural, normal and delightful, you can begin creating a healthy balanced harmonious relationship with a partner.

Before you dive into a sexual conversation with your partner, it can be helpful to start by getting to know what things in general bring your partner pleasure. What is his favorite color, favorite food, favorite texture? What sort of sounds set of pleasure deep inside of her?

Sex is just one way of sharing pleasure in a relationship. Get creative. There are thousands of ways we can make love to our partners that have nothing to do with sex. Making love can be about sharing pleasure. For the partner who loves clean and organized spaces, house cleaning can be an act of love making.

Sexual desire imbalances are often symptomatic of a relationship out of balance. It may seem like it is about sex, but often times the more we work on these issues, the real issues begin to emerge. Again communication is the key.

Life Coaching, Hypnotherapy, Emotional Freedom Technique and Self Hypnosis recordings can all be tools for improving communication, getting in touch with real passion, wants and needs, and uncovering the real issues beneath the imbalance.

Please note that my experience with couples is as a coach and Hypnotherapist not as a Psychotherapist or Marriage Counselor. Many of my clients also seek out Marriage Family Therapists and use Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching in conjunction with their regular therapy not as a substitute.

As with all blog entries your feed back and ideas on this topic are more than welcome.

drrar01-new.jpgI seem to be working with a number of people who are thriving with cancer at this moment and I have had some interesting realizations about the disease over the past few months.

Cancer is the ultimate disease of not being ones true self. Your cells actually forget who they are and start trying to be something other than you.

People who can’t speak their truth have cells that forget who they are in their throats and mouths.

People who forget how to love themselves or others get cells that forget themselves in their chests.

People who deny their true feelings get cells out of control in their bladder and sex organs.

People who refuse to embrace their own power and forget who they are get cells that forget right in their gut, their liver, their kidneys, their pancreas.

People who forget that they deserve to live, and can’t come to completely and deeply accept themselves get cells that forget in their intestine, colon, and rectum.

I’m learning more about this as I witness client after client experience this disease with all its lessons, gifts and griefs.

acrpm99tff1d101-F.jpgI’ve noticed that clients whose doctors are insensitive and cold hearted, resists their terminal diagnosis and do whatever it takes to prove the doctors wrong. Those with kind loving doctors take the suggestion to die to heart and often live exactly as long as the doctor predicts. I’ve come to see cold and even mean doctors as a real blessing.

I’ve learned that some bodies can handle even the strongest of chemo therapies without the slightest negative side effect. Reiki, EFT and Hypnosis can really help make this so.

I’ve learned that people who love life grieve the very thought of it ending. I’ve learned that all grief is a form of love and as such deserves to be fully expressed and admired for its beauty.

I’ve learned that we are all stronger than we think.

I’ve learned that allowing others to help us is sometimes the greatest gift we can give. The sooner my clients discover this the faster they seem to heal.acrar01hlj1d101.jpg

I’ve learned that it is okay … even amazingly great at times… to die. When the worse that could happen is death and death begins to seem really kind of cool, it makes living much more fun. No time is wasted on worry over death.

I’ve learned that every day of life, every breath we take is a miracle. Since it is all a miracle then why not ask for just one more miracle and for the cancer to just go away?

I’ve learned that at any moment we can give up our stories. Many cancer clients are living on borrowed time. This extra life doesn’t have to be lived with the stories of past pains influencing the present. Everyone can choose in this moment to tap into unconditional love, and open their hearts.

Emnbracing Your Own DeathDeath can be like a pregnancy. A person in their final phases of life can have a certain glow and the soul can be so present in their eyes. It can be an honor to witness this amazing transition.

Life is a terminal illness. We are all dying each day. So why not live? Really live life in every moment? Why waste time on worry? Why waste time on fear? We need not have cancer to learn these lessons. We can all take the time to open our hearts to love without first facing fear, disease and death.

My cancer clients have enjoyed my “Healing Journey Recording”, and benefited most from “Embracing Your Own Death” a trance that releases our fear of death.

drrar01-new.jpgDo you ever procrastinate? Are you one of those people who puts off doing things until the last minute? If you are, you are not alone. If you’re not a procrastinator, then good for you! I envy you.

In the past I’ve been a huge procrastinator. If I could put something off, I’d put it off. I wrote all my school papers, even term papers the night before they were due. I would do my Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. I would wait until company was on their way to my house to start cleaning up.

It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy writing papers, shopping or even house cleaning. There are times that I really enjoy all of those things. I just couldn’t get myself to do them until I had the pressure of a deadline.

This need for deadlines and the rush of racing to meet them is probably a big part of what lured me into television news. In fact I discovered that nearly every person in TV news is a big time procrastinator. That meant that motivating people to finish special projects for ratings sweeps was always a challenge. I had to artificially create a deadline that would feel just as real as having to finish a story to make it into a nightly newscast.

Creating deadlines, even artificial ones can be a great tool for shifting past procrastination. The more real you can make your deadline the more apt you may be to meet it.

acrpm99spr1d102.jpg

As you set out to do projects you may find it helpful to create a situation with built in deadlines. If they don’t exist you may find it helpful to just make up a deadline and see if that helps motivate you into action.

Deadlines are even more effective when there are consequences for missing or hitting them. I try to reward myself for making my deadlines and make it as uncomfortable as possible to miss the deadline. Now, I only ever do what I really want to do. Having consequences is not a way to “should myself” into meeting a deadline, it is just a way to help me remember what I REALLY WANT.

You can create consequences by recruiting an accountability partner. This is someone who you share your deadline with and when you meet the deadline this partner helps you celebrate.

Your task for today is to pick a project that you’ve been putting off. Set a deadline for completing it. Then pick someone, it can be anyone, including me or someone else in this program. Share your deadline with that person then start your project.

Remember procrastination can be rife with negative emotions and self hypnosis using a United Hypnotherapy recording is always an excellent resource for shifting past negative emotions.

drrar01-new.jpgDid you know that sometimes practical life changing ideas can come to you through your actual dreams? Dream state can be a great creative state. I once read that many inventors take naps in order to dream up their new inventions. They use that state just as they woke up to write down their dreams.

I use that state to write many of my blog entries including this very one. Just this morning I had a dream that you can use to help build your ideal life or that a high end florist could use to make millions of dollars.

Here’s my dreamed up idea. I call it the manifestation flower box. It’s a beautiful wooden box filled with the most amazing flowers you have ever seen. The beauty of this box captures your attention every time you walk by it. You’ll find yourself admiring and thinking of the box several times a day. The box also comes with a small pair of scissors and strips of pretty paper some with powerful words like love and joy and prosperity and others blank so you can write the words that you want to manifest in your life. You use the scissors to cut photos from magazines of items you want to manifest in your life. As the flowers die you replace the flowers with the words and the photos you’ve cut out.

The items you want to manifest slowly take the place of the beautiful flowers and you begin to admire and and enjoy your wants the way you did the beautiful flowers thinking about them several times a day and stopping by your box to admire them. In my dream the items began to manifest in my life and I pulled them one at a time out of the box and replaced them again with beautiful flowers.

I have yet to share this idea with a high end florist so you can’t yet order your manifestation flower box, but you can create your own. It doesn’t have to be a box filled with flowers first. You can create a vision board, a collage of words and photos that you can look at often until it manifests in your life.Waterfalls of Abundance

I first heard of vision boarding when I was fifteen and dreaming of getting my drivers license and owning a car. I cut out a photo of a little yellow Honda civic from an old magazine and put it up in my bedroom. I would gaze at it from time to time. I eventually lost the photo and forgot all about it.

A few years later when I had saved up enough money to finally buy a used car I found one in the paper. My parents took me off to see it and I bought it. On the drive home it hit me… this little yellow Civic was the exact same color and year as the one in that photo I had cut out a few years earlier.

In the movie”The Secret” a man tells a similar story of posting a photo of his dream house on a vision board then five years later pulling out the board and realizing he was living in the very home he had clipped out of a magazine.

So your mission today is to create a manifestation box or a vision board or perhaps just a want list (a list of all the things you want to create in your life) based on the dream you have for your life. Put this creation somewhere where you can look at it and admire it often. As you look at it pretend that you already have all these things in your life and feel the joy that it brings you.

If you decide to create manifestation boxes and sell them to the public, charge a buck more for each one and send it back to the original dreamer… me… lol !!!!

One more thing, keep paper and pen by your bed so you can capture your dreamed up ideas when you wake. Just this week I dreamed up the manifestation box and an entire one day hypnotherapy workshop. You might even try taking some naps in the middle of the day to dream up some creative ways to expand the joy in your life.

drrar01-new.jpgYour subconscious mind believes every word you say and you can use this to your advantage. The key is creating positive self talk or affirmations.

Affirmations are short positive phrases we tell ourselves several times a day that begin to change our lives in positive ways.

The first step in creating a great affirmation is to establish a clear intent. What do you really want to happen as a result of the affirmation?

Do you want to lose weight, do you want to feel joy and happiness? The clearer you can be the clearer the outcome.

The second step is to phrase your affirmation in the most positive language possible. Instead of saying “I am not going to over eat”
(note the negativity), say “I eat only foods that nourish my body and stop when I feel full”. In order for your mind to understand the language youhave to think about the words and thinking about over eating, even with the “not” in front of it, will cause you to over eat.

Make all your affirmations in the present tense. Assume that what you want is happening in your life as you say the affirmation. “Each day in every way my body is becoming thinner and thinner.”Deep and Complete Self Acceptance

The third step is to crank up your desire for what you’re affirming. It sometimes helps to exaggerate what you want. Shoot for the stars, make it big. Really, really want it.

Finally repeat the affirmation to yourself as much as possible. You can write it down over and over again. You can post it around your house so you see it as you go about your day. You can say it every time you eat or drink or use the restroom. Or you can use the affirmation when you get to your special place using self hypnosis.

The key to affirmations is INTENTION + DESIRE + REPETITION = MANIFESTATION.

Now go create the life you want!

drrar01-new.jpgNo one likes to be told what they should do. Not your children, not your parents, not your students, your employees or anyone you appear to have influence over in your life. The last thing any of us wants is someone, even someone well meaning and loving, telling us what we should do.

Our subconscious is no different. It doesn’t have much tolerance for being told what it should do. It reacts much better if you just tell it to do something. People are more apt to just do what they are told than they are to do what they are told they should do. The same is true of your subconscious.

While people and your subconscious will both respond often to direct commands they will respond best when they get to choose a course of action. Milton Erickson, a one of the fathers of modern day Hypnotherapy developed a technique where his clients were always given a choice, but all the choices they could choose between were all things that would help them. It’s called forced choice questions and they can be a powerful tool.

For example when he wanted his children to do their chores, we would ask, “What would you like to do first, clean your bedroom, rake the yard, or take out the trash?” The subconscious jumps at the opportunity to choose and feels empowered forgetting that not doing any of these things is an option that perhaps they might even prefer.

Note that he didn’t tell his children that they should do their chores. He gave them a choice and they selected from one of three really great things. With clients he might say, “Perhaps you’ll find yourself happier in just a few minutes, or perhaps it might take you a few hours, or even a day, or perhaps you may be finding yourself happy right now. What feels true for you?” Notice that not feeling happy is not an option. And never does he suggest that they should feel anything.

Making Friends With Your Inner CriticYou can use these techniques to begin to manipulate your own experience of your own life. You can choose to start losing weight later today, tomorrow or right now. You can choose to either buy a Hypnosis CD and wait for it to arrive in the mail, or you can order an MP3 and start listening to it right now.

Think of all the positive forced choices you could give yourself. Remember there’s nothing you should do just lots of interesting things you could do. You could start today telling yourself all the things you could do, and let yourself choose between all these good options.

As amazing changes start to happen in your life, be sure to share them here as a comment on our blog. Your amazing experience will be just the inspiration someone else is seeking.

I had one client a few months back tell me that just by shifting all the shoulds in her life to coulds everything had changed for the better. Her relationships improved. Her work situation became more rewarding. She rediscovered her love for art and is now following her true passion. A change of just one letter has stopped procrastination in her life and helped her feel really powerful.

Keep thinking of all the things you can do when you put an end to the shoulds and embrace all your coulds.

drhhm01.jpgOverview:
The following are guidelines for becoming an active and conscious manifester in your life. We human beings are constantly manifesting. The power to manifest is already a part of you. It is your Being. We manifest through our body, mind and soul. Our thoughts, words, and actions are our tools. We manifest in our lives that upon which we focus. Most people manifest passively and unconsciously; they are victims of how their unconscious thoughts and words manifest outcomes in their lives. It is very important for us, who want to be conscious manifesters, to become exquisitely aware of what we focus on, consciously and unconsciously, and how to directly engage our thoughts, words and actions so that we are more productively working towards creating our heart’s desires. These simple steps will help you become more conscious and more directly involved in manifesting your goals and dreams. You may facilitate your coaching clients towards manifesting their coaching and life goals using this process as well as use it for yourself.

1. Choosing a Goal to Manifest.

Make sure that your goal is your own; that is one that is congruent to your own desires and to who you are as a person. It will not work, for instance, to try to manifest your parent’s goals for you to be a politician when you really want to be a dancer. Using the Wheel of Life tool and the Coaching for Values approaches are important tools at this stage. You and only you can decide if this goal is truly important and of value.

2. The Importance of Manifesting with Intention.

Make sure that your goal is moving towards what you want, not what you don’t want. Get specific about the details or qualities of what you want. Make a list of these details or use the “bubbling” technique to map the specifics.

3. Reinforcing with Affirmations.

Write an affirmation that includes the specifics of your goal. Be positive. Use present tense. Relate it to yourself as coming to you at just the right time and for the highest good of all. Give the statement some “juice” or emotion.

4. Doing a “Body Check”.

Say your affirmation aloud and feel it in your body. Make sure that it feels right and important to you, especially in your heart chakra. If it doesn’t feel right, keep working on the specifics until it does feel right.
At this stage you may become aware of limiting beliefs, unconscious attitudes or negative self talk that need clearing. Muscle testing can be used to check for psychological reversal. Inner work with EFT or Hypnotherapy may be needed to clear the unconscious blocks.

5. Engaging the Unconscious.

Using your hypnosis and creative visualization skills, now close your eyes and say the affirmation. Allow yourself to experience being your future self, the person who has already manifested the goal. Awaken all of your inner senses and experience what you feel, see, hear, sense, think and if appropriate taste and smell. Associate in the experience as fully as possible. The unconscious is now engaging in the manifesting process! Use your hypnotic skill rehearsal techniques to be in the moment the person who has already manifested his or her goal.

6. Anchor your Goal.

Choose a word, phrase, an image or a feeling that come to you when in trance that will be your anchor to reinforce the positive experience of stepping into your future self.

7. Give it substance.

Draw a picture, make a sandtray, take a photograph, find a symbol or make a collage of what you want. Keep it in view of your daily activities. What color or colors are the essence of your goal? When thinking of your goal you can use your anchors and put a big ball of energy over your head that is the color of your goal. Allow the color and feelings of energy to move into your aura and body to give it space to manifest through you and in your life.

8. Let it go.

Now release this color or feeling through your solar plexus. Surrender it to the Universe. Letting it go is very important to the manifesting process. As a part of the energy mechanics of life, the vibration of your thought and words have been released and broadcast into the universe so that they can attract to you opportunities and what you need. Coaching for Being is helpful here. Be where you are right now. Know that what is at this moment is perfect and right.

9. Know it as Reality.

There is no time in spirit. It does, however take time for goals to manifest in physical plane reality. Know that your goal will manifest in the time and way it is best for you. The Law of Cause and Effect is in action. “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find, Knock and it shall be opened unto you.” Manifesting is a process that takes time. You can support it by acting as if you already have what you want. Validate even the smallest steps.

10. Take Action.

Manifesting is a process. Give your manifesting process attention. Every day do something towards making your goal a reality. The universe will give you signs along the way that will lead you on the path of manifesting. Stay alert to the opportunities that show up. Use your intuition and explore those opportunities that get your attention. Follow up on the cosmic “leads” that appear. Engage in your life as a part of the process. Stay open and receptive to opportunities coming in surprising ways. Work with your affirmation daily. Write it out and place it in a conspicuous place so you will see it as you go about your daily routines. Stop any negative language or limiting thoughts. Use EFT and hypnotherapy to delete any negative programs that show up.

11. Give thanks.

Hold gratitude in your heart for the abundance of the universe and the knowing that you are manifesting opportunities and exactly what you need for your goal to manifest. Celebrate and enjoy the process.

drrar01-new.jpg Just for today I’d like you to try a little experiment. Just for today pretend that you already have everything you want in life.

Just for today pretend that you’ve achieved all the success you’re wanting to have.
Imagine your wallet filled with money. Imagine your bank statement the way you would most want it to be.

Imagine yourself doing exactly what you want to do when you want to do it.

Now for the rest of the day, pretend that everything you imagined is real. Try on this new reality, just for today.

You can go back to thinking your ideal life exists somewhere out there when the day is done. Or maybe you’ll choose to keep pretending. And maybe if you pretend well enough other people might believe that your life is really ideal.

Maybe if you pretend long and hard enough, you’ll actually convince yourself that you already have your ideal life.

Your imagination is the key for tapping into your subconscious mind. It is from the subconscious mind that we create the reality we live our lives in. Pretending, using your imagination resets the inner programing and produces a new outer reality.Mind Opening In the Garden of Possiblities

A little time spent pretending is calling your attention back to your intentions. This helps you stay focused on what you want. Instead of being focused on what you don’t want.

Have you ever heard the story of Jim Carrey the comic actor and his million dollar check? Carrey has told many an interviewer the story of how he wrote himself a check for a million dollars and carried it around in his wallet until he became a huge success and could cash it.

Carrey is a great pretender. He’s pretended his way into a multi million dollar movie star career.

If you want, write yourself a check for a million dollars and see what happens. Be sure to share your results by posting a comment!

drnic01.jpgTry this for one round of golf. Remember God as much as you can. This may be hard at first, but just do an experiment and see how it affects your golf game. I would love to hear how it affected you and your golf game. I will give you some ways you can remember God or if you would like to call it spirit or the universe, whatever works for you. Start by appreciating the fact the you have a body and a great mind to play golf. Appreciate that you don’t have to work that day as many people must work and/or are out of work. Look at your clubs and appreciate them. You may even want to clean them as that always adds a fresh perspective.

Start your round. Maybe have a conversation with your golf ball. Something like this, “Oh, White Pearly One (you want it to listen right) thank you for all the wonderful shots you will give me today. And if the laws of the universe permit thank you for staying with me the entire round.” You may even want to mark something on your ball like God or Spirit with a Sharpie. You may want to try this with your clubs as you play the round. If you have a 5-iron shot for instance you can thank your five iron for all the good shots it has produced before and as a result feel great about the shot you are about to hit.

As you proceed notice your playing partners. Notice their spirits and thank them internally or out-loud, if you’d like, for giving you the pleasure to play golf with them. I guarantee you the law of karma can work here. Praise your playing partners for good shots; they will love it and you will have more good shots yourself

Now notice the earth below. Ahh Mother Earth. Thank her and everyone who made it possible for you to walk on this sacred ground. That green grass, the manicured greens, and the raked bunkers were all provided for you by many people to enjoy your round. How can you have a bad round knowing this?

Treat this as a meditation. Every step you take, every move you make, every shot you take is taking you closer and closer to your experience with spirit or God. God love to see you shine. Let your emotions be an indicator for this. If you are feeling good you are on the right track if you are feeling bad you are on the wrong track. If you are feeling bad remember God and how much he loves you and that you are created one with him.

Appreciate your own unique golf swing. Let it be as unique and natural as your signature. Get rid of mechanical thoughts and just simply be with all that is in your golf swing. Let go and release. Trust the divine universe and yourself to perform your swing with the utmost level of effortlessness. Let yourself play the golf of your dreams. Let God be a part of your game with you. Let him walk with you, knowing you can never make a mistake. You are always worthy of your truest potential in your game.

Notice your emotions or tension. Remind yourself to breathe. Notice the space in between physical things. Know God is in those places as well. See the living pulsating universe in the trees, the birds and even the stones.

Try this for 18 holes. Notice how you feel before and after the round. What areas did you struggle with. Were you aware of your thoughts and your feelings? Were you able to feel good the whole time? If not there is room for improvement. Your goal is to realize you are the God of your game. Did you have any amazing shots? Were you able to get into the zone?

After the round no matter what, remind yourself that you are lucky and grateful that you were able to experience golf for the last four hours. Congratulate yourself for giving yourself time well deserved for yourself. Every time you play golf remind yourself that you are on a sacred journey towards the evolution of your soul.

drryg01.jpgStress is the common denominator of our lives. We have stress in all dimensions of our experience, whether it is physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. Developing a consistent alpha-state practice has been the road back to equilibrium across all these dimensions for me. The alpha state is simply an extremely relaxed inwardly-aware, normal state of consciousness such as is attained through self-hypnosis or meditation.

Not only does this state bring you into a place where you can gain a larger perspective about the issues in your life, and where you can see things from many different points of view, it connects you to those internal resources for higher guidance in finding solutions, and resolution. In addition, being in the alpha state itself creates specific neurochemistry designed to neutralize the stress chemistry initiated in the brain from being in a beta state (which is an alert, outwardly-focused state) where we tend to spend all our awake time, little realizing this is what is creating the out-of-balance in the first place.

Stress is fragmenting to the being. True relaxation, and the alpha state foster reconnection and wholeness. In our western culture we have little training in activating the relaxation response and are therefore often floundering under a load of stress that will eventually tear us apart if we don’t learn how to cope with it in a natural and healthy way. Learning these simple techniques has enabled me to transcend asthma, IBS, migraines, extreme allergies, chronic pain, crippling grief, and many other debilitating conditions. It has also opened the door to my dreams, and my higher awareness.

Because our western culture has been ‘trained’ to turn to the medical paradigm for a quick fix in the form of a pill to answer these issues, many people do not know that there is a simple, effective, safe, and natural way to utilize the body’s own innate resources for re-establishing equilibrium and health. Managing stress is also the single most critical element in over-coming any habit or addictive behavior pattern.

Once again, I invite you to share you succinct stories here of how self-hypnosis or alpha-state practice has changed your life. If you are moved to do so, you can send expanded versions of your stories to me at trancelady@sbcglobal.net for inclusion in a published project. I believe that many more people have benefited from this type of practice than we commonly know about. It is time to re-empower everyone in knowing about this invaluable resource for healing.

Hi, My name is Rick McFall, and I’m your host in this article about putting the principles of the movie, “The Secret” into action for you.

Many of my friends and acquaintances watched the movie “The Secret” and learned all about the “Law of Attraction”. Most loved it, and most said they were going to do everything that they had watched and read, but as I listened to them talk to me, I noticed that many of them didn’t know exactly how to do it. That’s why I decided to record a new CD – to help people utilize the Law of Attraction, the principles of the movie “The Secret” and many other things from similar teachings that I have read, heard, and use on a daily basis myself.

My take on what is necessary for the Law of Attraction to work is for you to get a handle on what it is that you WANT in your life, and what it will feel like to actually have it. You need to get that actual feeling and hang on to it. That’s the important part! Hang on to that FEELING, and the rest of the universe will instantly spring into motion to make everything in your world congruent with that feeling.

I’m not going to belabor the point, or try to convince you of anything. I’m just going to tell you to open yourself to the feelings that you want, and then look for, and EXPECT miracles to happen. They most undoubtedly will happen….

I want to talk to you a bit about what it is that you want in your life, and I want to give you a few suggestions about how to frame that in your mind.

When I ask people directly what they want in their lives, or what they want to change, I get many answers, but there are several themes that are common to most people’s wants and desires. Money, wealth, prosperity, love, a nice house, a good job, health, a nice car, and traveling. Whatever it is that they tell me (it doesn’t matter what it is), my next question is always the same and this is very important. And here’s the question…

What if you didn’t get ANY of those things, BUT you all of a sudden were completely happy in your life… Would that be OK?

Let me repeat that…

What if you didn’t get ANY of those things, BUT you all of a sudden were completely happy in your life… Would that be OK?

The answer that a person gives me tells me a LOT about what his or her preconceived notions are about happiness and how attached they are to getting what it is that they THINK will make them happy.

Let me give you an easy example:

I work with a LOT of people in my private practice for with weight loss. I ask almost the same question of all my weight loss clients and that question is: What if, when we’re all done here, you don’t lose a single pound, BUT you are completely happy in your life. Would that be OK?

Now, let’s think about that a minute. They have come to me because they are un-happy with their weight. UNHAPPY… That’s what they are feeling…. They want to CHANGE their WEIGHT because they THINK that’s what is going to make them happy. It makes logical sense, of course, BUT what if they lose the weight and they AREN’T happy? Is THAT going to be OK?

Well, they got what they wanted, but they still need something else, so they look for that. They then convince themselves that it’s perhaps Money instead that they need to be happy. Perhaps they go out and get a fantastic job that pays them amazingly well, but they STILL aren’t happy. Now they are thin and rich, but they are still unhappy in their life? What now?

Well… I’ll tell you what now… Why don’t we just concentrate on being HAPPY in our lives, and let the rest of the stuff take care of itself. Is it wealth that creates Happiness or Happiness that creates wealth? Is it losing weight that creates happiness? Or is it Happiness that creates a natural tendency to automatically achieve and maintain a healthy body weight?

From working with a countless number of people in my hypnotherapy practice, I can tell you this… When a person puts feeling happy in life above all else, then money, cars, houses, weight loss, loving relationships, and EVERYTHING ELSE they ever wanted seems to just follow all by itself. Call it a miracle, call it the intervention of God or the Universe, or whatever you want. Call it “The Secret”, call it the “Power of the Subconscious Mind”… I don’t care… It works.

Soooo…. Set aside whatever it is that you THINK is going to make you happy. It’s OK if you get all of those things, and you might get every single one of them. Truly, you just might. I’m just suggesting that you let go of your attachment to them. Be open to whatever it is that comes your way to make you truly and completely happy and at peace with yourself in life.

Be open to attracting things you didn’t even dream of attracting that will make you happy. Allow your feelings to become a guide. Allow your feelings and emotions to set the entire universe into action to bring complete and utter happiness to you in everything that you do. Instead of concentrating on what you DON’T want… concentrate solely on the feelings you want to have.

So how do you do that? We have some recordings that will help you with that if you need them. They will relax you, take you to a safe and comfortable place in your mind, bring you to a place where you can feel that feeling that you want to be feeling all the time, and then help you maintain it more and more in your life.

By rehearsing getting into this state of feeling happy and peaceful, and by actually feeling it more and more, it will rapidly become a habit for you to feel that way all the time. And as you continue to feel that way all the time, you will begin to notice coincidences beginning to happen more and more in your life, and then you will come to see them as being synchronistic events, and then you might even begin to consider miracles in your life to become commonplace occurrences.

drryg01.jpgIn our culture, it is common to discount our dreams. Many people tell me they haven’t remembered a dream in years. Some even assert that they don’t dream at all (which is not true…we all dream). Often, we don’t remember the dreams because we wake up abruptly with an alarm clock. Other times, our conscious mind overrides the dream awareness as we start thinking about our day and all we have to get done.

Whatever the case, our dreams are very important means of communication between our conscious minds and our subconscious or unconscious minds. I believe that dreams are important conduits of guidance from our higher minds. Dreams also come to us in many forms. Night dreams are generally what we think of when we say ‘dreams,’ but daydreams and trance ‘dreams’ can also offer profound insights to us. All forms of dreaming are interwoven into our big life dreams as well. Dreams are also important in healing in all dimensions: body, mind, and spirit.

In many cultures, dreaming is seen to be important not only for the individual who has the dream, but also for the community as a whole. Dreams are actively reported and shared. I am interested in providing a forum for dream sharing. The idea is to share a dream that has had a powerful impact in your life by providing guidance in making a specific choice or decision. The purpose is to rekindle interest and focus on our dreams, which is a way to reconnect with ourselves and our higher guidance in these critical times. If you are interested in helping with this project, please submit your succinct dream stories here on the blog, and as ever, send your longer dream stories to me at trancelady@sbcglobal.net if you are willing to have them included in a collection for publication.

Dreams have been important to some of our greatest thinkers of all time. Many of our advances in knowledge have been the result of dreams. If we can stimulate a renaissance of dreaming, we can positively impact the course of our collective future.

In order to be able to harvest the wisdom of our dreams we must cultivate healthy sleep protocols and manage our stress. Developing a consistent ‘alpha’ trance practice can facilitate this. If you feel challenged in any of these areas, there are resources available to you from our site. In addition to what is already available, my dream journal handbook will soon be available for download, along with the stress handbook. I invite you to open to yourself. All that you need is within you. As each of us finds wholeness within, we bring wholeness to the world around us. It is my dream to be a facilitator of this by helping to empower others to honor their own higher guidance.

drhhm01.jpgThrough the history of human spiritual traditions there has been a belief that there is a nonphysical existence that parallels the physical universe. People considered this world to be filled with spirits. In the Assyrian cuneiform texts from about 2500 BC are the first known written accounts of the treatment of illness. Ceremonies to the tribal gods and direct confrontation of demons through prayer were the rituals used to heal people of negative spirit influence. In the North American indigenous shamanic traditions there is still a belief that mental and physical sickness is caused by either the possession of evil spirits or the soul loss of one’s own spirit.

The shaman and healers of the indigenous cultures perform rituals and healing ceremonies to cast out the spirits so that the ill person can become balanced and heal. These rituals are called extractions. They are still performed today. The shaman, in a non-ordinary state of consciousness induced by drumming, dancing and at times the use of natural herbal hallucinogens, joins the world of the spirits to be possessed himself by his helping spirits and power animal spirits so he can communicate with the patient’s intruding spirits to dislodge them and release them back into the spirit world, freeing the patient of the draining and toxic influence of the spirit’s presence. In some traditions the spirit is dislodged by the shaman sucking out the spirit and illness by placing the mouth directly against the patient’s body. The Lummi tribe in the Northwest Coast of North America uses another approach for releasing attaching spirits that are the result of a sorcerer’s curse. The shaman usually has other healers helping him, as the task of releasing spirits is considered very difficult. The shaman or medicine man becomes violent and frenzied as if animated by some unseen spirit force. When he has found the possessing spirit he falls into a trance and tells how the spirit is affecting the patient and the patient’s family. When he gets the force under control the person is healed and the family is free from its influence. The captured spirit is either put in a spirit bundle of cedar-bark and the medicine man shoots an arrow through the bundle, or he destroys the spirit by putting it in a rock that has been heated and then breaking the rock by pouring water on it, or he holds the spirit in his hands and twists it as if he were breaking it up after which he throws the parts in opposite directions. Sometimes, the spirit is sent back to the person who sent the evil spirit.

As a psychotherapist I have been doing a modern version of spirit extractions with my clients since 1986. I have been trained in a more clinical approach, which uses the non-ordinary state of hypnosis. In the hypnotic state the client becomes his or her own shaman. The process is called Spirit Releasement Therapy. Through doing this work I have found that disembodied spirits attach to humans for many reasons. The spirit may not realize he is dead or he may have some spiritual codependence issue that remains after death and he may not be able to let go and move on, or he may have an addiction that keeps him bound to the physical plane to satisfy his addictive needs. In all of these cases, the spirit is waylaid and stuck and the host is drained of energy and is influenced in ways, which inhibit his life force and free will.

There are many symptoms of spirit attachment and the clinician must have skills to differentially diagnose the client with the symptoms, which could also be from biological and psychological causes. Some symptoms are low energy, hearing voices, physical symptoms that seem to have no physical cause, compulsions, and mood swings. Let’s face it: a good case of PMS could create the same list of symptoms! When a client presents any of the mentioned symptoms I will do an extensive interview to find out the history of the symptoms and I will especially ask if there were any deaths or any energetic openings in the client’s life about the time the symptoms began. Energetic openings could be: an accident, use of drugs or alcohol, surgery, extreme emotional states, loss of consciousness, or out of control psychic experiences. These types of experiences cause a disruption in the energy system, which weakens our protection, making us more vulnerable to an entity attaching itself to our energy system.

Once we have ruled out any possible physical or emotional cause of the symptom we will investigate the possibility of a spirit attachment by having the client perform his own energy scan. In a light state of hypnosis he closes his eyes and using his inner seeing, feeling and knowing “scans” the body and energy system for any intruding energy. The intrusions are typically experienced as darkness, fuzziness, blocked energy, or heaviness. Last Thursday I worked with a 48 year old client who grew up living in an apartment above her father’s funeral home. Seeing dead bodies before and after embalming and cremation were a daily thing for her. Children at school teased her ruthlessly about what her father did for a living and she was very isolated and lonely as a child. When we did the energy scan process she noticed a feeling and image of a dark energy clinging to her between the shoulder blades where she typically feels tension and back pain. We proceeded to telepathically communicate with the entity and she verbalized the messages she received, just as the shaman would telepathically communicate with the spirit and tell about its influence. We discovered that there had been a spirit of a dead man who died in a truck accident. His body was brought to the funeral home and was buried. He was confused and angry and attached to my client when she was four years old. At the age of four she had had a hernia surgery and that was the energetic opening for the spirit to attach. Through more communication we discovered that the spirit was afraid of moving on into the Light because he didn’t want to let go of what was familiar and comfortable after all these years. The client dialogued with the spirit and she told him that he was no longer welcome to stay and that she wanted him to move on. We called upon the spirit of the entity’s dead grandmother to come get him to take him with her to the light and eventually he exited through the client’s lower back and moved on. My client felt a big release and as if there were more room in her body after the releasement took place. The darkness and tightness in her back were also released. These types of effects are common results for the client.

This spirit releasement process was pretty typical and undramatic. At other times I have had spirit releasement sessions be profound and almost miraculous. Here are several other cases: A woman client complained of burning pain on the right side of her body. She had exhausted all medical and alternative healing sources and had received no
amelioration of the pain. In regression hypnosis she discovered the source of the pain. When traveling in Japan and touring the area of the Hiroshima atomic blast she picked up a “hitch hiker” who had died in the blast. The right side of his body was facing the blast and had melted. It was his pain that was registering through my client’s body. After he was released into the light, her pain was gone. (The entity was confused. He went into the light of the bomb blast, not the spiritual light of the afterlife and he was lost. He attached to my client because he saw her as a compassionate being that knew about healing. He thought he might get some help.)

And then there was the man who was ritually and sexually abused as a child in the Jehovah’s Witness church. A Catholic priest referred him to me for a clinical depossession. Several psychologists thought he might be a multiple personality because of his abuse and the angry dark energy that commonly took over my client. During the abuse my client was told that he was the Devil and that all of their sins would go into him during the ritual and sexual abuse. He grew up feeling all of this negativity and hate and felt that his whole life was blocked of any success and love. The session was intense and very frightening. At one time the client actually levitated off the chair from the intense anger and attacking energy of the entity. It was through regressing the entity back to its source of love that the releasement finally took place. The anger and negativity dissolved and the entity cried in the pain of remorse for what he had caused my client. With forgiveness and love, he moved on into the light for his own healing. My client was free!

After the releasement my client’s life totally changed. He was finally able to heal from his abuse and have a life that was productive and whole. There were no more symptoms of being a multiple personality after the demonic entity was released. He became a student at HCH, was trained in Hypnotherapy and Spirit Releasement Therapy is now married to a psychologist and doing the spirit releasement work professionally, hoping to help others to be free of the bondage and drain of attaching spirits.

I have released thousands of entities with the help of my and my clients’ spirit helpers. The main ingredient in the clinical spirit releasement is LOVE. It is through our larger collective connection in spirit, whether we are in physical form or not, that the healing takes place. Today, in the therapy offices of clinically trained and licensed psychotherapists healing rituals take place that come from the lineage of the shamanic traditions of indigenous peoples from thousands of years ago. These therapeutic “technologies” are rooted in a basic belief and premise of most spiritual traditions: we are spiritual is essence and we are able, through our spiritual practices, to realize our spiritual nature and divine source. My work as a hypnotherapist and psychotherapist is that of a modern day shaman; it is the work of restoring spirit and reconnecting it to its divine source.

drnic01.jpgIn the golf world anything can be accomplished with hypnosis, whether you’re a beginner or a pro on tour. Because your body does not know the difference between visualizing performance and actually doing it, hypnosis is a fabulous tool to practice new techniques in your golf swing. Hypnosis can also be used to remove unwanted performance anxieties or emotional blocks that inhibit your performance.

In addition just by being hypnotized you can experience and wonderful state called the zone and learn to stay there when you are in it. Using ‘anchors’ in hypnosis for golf is another way to accomplish your goals in golf. Just the other day I was working with someone who wanted his hands and his body in a certain position in his set-up but at the same time he needed to be in a balanced mind state. Instead of having a huge checklist to go through we decided to anchor the hand position, his body position into ‘one’ anchor, which also included feeling very grounded. By being grounded he was able to remain in the present, feel balanced, have a clear mind. So to put this all together the anchor served as a trigger for his body and mind to be exactly where he wanted physically and mentally. As a result he was able to hit more consistent, solid and accurate shots.

People’s golf swings are as unique as they are. That is what I love about helping golfers discover their potential. Each person thinks, feel, behaves and is physically different. What works for one might not work for another. I have been a teacher of the game for 12 years and have learned that less is more. Often times the more changes you make the harder it is to incorporate those changes. I have found that a lot of problems people experience in their golf game is related to how they think and more importantly how they feel about their game. Of course you must have a sound technique, but once you have that it is crucial to tame your brain. My feeling is that golf is not mostly mental it’s all mental. What’s often controlling your body, your mind! The mind is our most valuable instrument when finely tuned but when it’s out of control it’s disastrous. Not only does hypnosis teach you what to think or what to pay attention to it can teach you how to use your mind for your greatest benefit, but even greater it can help you touch those extraordinary states of spirit.

A common mistake that I see all or most people commit at one time or another is playing golf from their ego. Playing golf from the ego can be detected when a student is trying to impress the teacher, or when a tour pro is coming down the stretch and then starts to think about all the money he will make when he wins, or even when you are busy condemning yourself for the last bad shot you hit. These instances are not spiritual in nature and should be detected as red flags. Playing from your spiritual nature can be detected as spontaneously announcing that you are going to can a putt because you have an inner knowing and feeling that the ball is going in. Playing from your spiritual nature can be detected as feeling joy for your playing partner when he makes a excellent shot. Playing from your spiritual nature can be felt as being so immersed in what you are doing that you forget all sense of time and you feel at one with nature and that shot you are about to do with no judgment one way or another about it’s result. Because hypnosis is that type of mind, more right-brained than left just by being in a hypnotic state helps you to be more aware of what it feels like so that you can become more equipped to have that state on the golf course.

Don’t get me wrong the left-brain is a very valuable piece of the process. You need to use it to calculate the distance and to pick the right club, but if you only use your left brain things will feel horrible. You feel too mechanical and out of rhythm. I think the two worst enemies are your ego and your left brain. You need them but they always seem to want more attention than what is appropriate to give them. That is why you need to satisfy the concerns of the ego and the left-brain, in order for you to ‘let go’ into the process of the right-brain, and or the ‘feeling part’. By doing this it is much easier to get to the heart of the matter or your true essence or spirit. When you play and strive for every experience to be truly spiritual in nature you will be emotionally stronger, make better decisions, have more joy and simply play better. This is why all my cd’s and work come from a spiritual background. I have found that self-discovery and spiritual insight is the most exciting way to play golf and I hope you can start perceiving it this way and start your journey back your ‘true self’.

drrar01-new.jpg Sometimes every where you turn you can feel the energy in your life that’s going to push you to the next level. Other times there seems to be no energy at all. This can leave us frustrated or disheartened. That frustration can seem to zap the energy even more creating a downward spiral.

But just because the energy has changed doesn’t mean that your life isn’t going exactly where it needs to go. Everything needs to happen in just the right timing. In a subconscious way we know this to be true. Sometimes we lose interest or slow down in order to get our timing in sync with the world.

When the energy seems to just vanish on us, it is an opportunity to slow down, change directions or reconsider what it is we really want. If our intention remains the same then it is an invitation to trust. Trust that the energy has shifted for a reason. Trust that we are sensing the perfect timing and that our motivation will return when the energy shifts again. Trust that everything is happening at just the right time.

When we place our order at a restaurant we have total faith that the chef will manifest our food and the wait staff will bring it to us. Most of the time we sit back and enjoy our company or the appetizers with total faith that our order has been received and will be created.Waterfalls of Abundance

When we order from the world through our intention, and our attention, we can treat it just like ordering food at a restaurant. We can sit back and enjoy the company the ambiance and have faith that the universe received our order. We can trust and when the timing is right we will receive everything we’ve ordered.

Your mission today is to trust. Trust is one route to that key state of no tension. If you find you just can’t trust, try listening to a few Hypnotic Journeys it’s amazing what the trance state can do for building trust and releiving tension.

From the state of no tension you can discover inspiration and a wealth of ideas and opportunities for actions to create your ideal life.

Ramona Young-GrindleWell, I would like to invite others to share their ‘attraction’ stories. Here is one of mine to kick things off.

After I had first leased my office space eight years ago, I was standing in the bare naked office trying to imagine how I would furnish it. Suddenly, the phone rang in the office next door to mine. The ring, and the ensuing conversation were pretty loud. As my business requires quiet and privacy, I was pretty dismayed. What had I done? I had signed a lease to an office in which I would not have either it seemed.

As I continued to anguish over this, I realized that the sound was coming through the door that connected our two office spaces. It must be a hollow-core door, I thought. It is resonating the sound. It did not seem to be coming through the wall at all. After the person next door finished his conversation, he left his office to go across the hall. He passed by my open door and stepped in to introduce himself. Noticing my concerned look, I explained what was going on. “No problem,” he said. “Just go to the home store and get some sound-proofing board. Get it cut to size and cover the door with it. Then you just need a bookcase to stand in front of it, and you’re all set.” Well, I thought to myself, I can do the sound proofing bit, but it may take a while to find the right size bookcase. However, I set off to the home store, actually finding a truly helpful person there who cut the board for me, including the cut out for the door knob, and I brought the board back to my office and ‘installed’ it over the door. It was not too attractive, being a rough brown textured and thick composition. I envisioned how nice it would be when I found the right bookcase to stand in front of it, a nice wooden one that would fit snugly into the doorway. I measured it and continued to think of exactly the kind of bookcase I wanted there, not having a clue how I would find one that would work in this most particular spot. I just had a feeling about how nice it was going to be, and I was excited about my office space working out after all. After spending a bit more time thinking about my office and how nice it would look when I got everything in place, I went home.

As I opened the door and stepped across the threshold, my husband called out, “I’m going to have to bring the company truck home tomorrow honey. My friend James from work has a bookcase he wants to give you for your new office.” Now, mind you, I had not even told my husband about the sound problem or the need for a bookcase. The next day, he and James brought the bookcase to the office, and, you guessed it, the thing fit like a glove inside the connecting door frame, completely covering the soundproofing board. From that day onward, I never had another problem with the sound from the other office. It was perfect. The thing I love most about this story is the instant nature of it. There was virtually no lag time at all. I visioned it, I was excited about it, and even though I did not know how it would happen, I just knew it would somehow work out.

Over the next few weeks, I was also gifted with four paintings, a clock, another bookcase, a lamp, plants and other assorted decor items for my office. I was trying to find the right kind of recliner to match my vision at a price I could afford, having just put out a lot for other business start up costs. Long story short, once I remembered to ‘let go’ of it (with an insistent reminder from my dear friend Rick, the founder of this website), the ad showed up the next morning. I wound up with a matched pair of beautiful green recliners for $200.00 total and I was all set to receive clients.

Now, let’s hear some of YOUR stories. The Law of Attraction is working all the time. Sometimes we attract what we fear (when we are not in awareness) and other times, we attract what we want or desire like magic. I would like to create a book of such stories because I believe that we are on the brink of a huge consciousness shift, and such a book may help that shift along. Please share you story here on the blog and if you are also willing to share it in a book format, please send it to me at trancelady@sbcglobal.net. If you have multiple stories, please share them with others. The more we can break down the old mindset around this the more we can co-create a wonderful, abundant and liberated life for all of us on this planet. By sharing our stories, we change the collective consciousness field. Remember the story of Roger Banister and the four-minute mile. Once he broke this ‘impossible’ barrier, many athletes were able to push through it. Our beliefs hold us back. Imagine how great a people we CAN be. Let’s be part of this process together.

gold.jpgLaw of Attraction CDs/MP3s

drryg01.jpgFirst let me clarify something here. I feel a tremendous upwelling of consciousness potential at this juncture of time. The time is right for us to reach that ‘critical mass’ of consciousness which will turn the tide for us individually, for us as a species, and for our planet. It may even be that the ‘consciousness shift’ will have implications even beyond our planet. I don’t know, but I find that my mind is holding an ever growing vision of what is possible. I have seen the power of consciousness at work (and play) in so many ways, and my inkling is that this is just a tiny mote in comparison to what is truly available to us. I have had a dream lately of connecting, linking, of melding and merging at a very high order. It is this ‘collective consciousness’ that I am interested in fostering. When we blow out the ‘boundary conditions’ of our collective mind, we will soar…we truly will be limitless…and this is exactly what is needed at this crucial point on the space-time continuum. If you are still with me here, you may be wondering what all this has to do with Reiki and specifically Reiki stories….

If you have read my other posts you will find a common thread weaving these posts together…I am asking for you, the reader, to share you story. It is in sharing story that we push out the boundaries of our thinking…we become part of the shift…so, here again is another invitiation to share your story….both here on this blog, and in expanded version if you care to submit it to me at trancelady@sbcglobal.net for inclusion in a published collection. Truthfully, I don’t know how any of this is going to happen. I just ‘know’ that it is time for it to happen, and I feel compelled to provide these forums, these invitations to you. Each of you has a unique story, and it may be just the catalyst that will help another person expand…connect…grow…

For myself, I can say that Reiki absolutely changed my life. On my personal healing journey, it provided the catalyst from which all else followed as it placed my foot upon a healing journey I could not even comprehend when I had my first attunements. It was only in looking back over time that I realized it had been that juncture where it all began. I believe that it was that first set of Reiki attunements that opened me to having the spontaneous trance experience that led to my becoming a hypnotherapist. That is often the gift of Reiki…it is profound, yet sometimes so subtle that you can miss its impact until you find the proper filter for framing perspective…

Since then I have continued to study and practice Reiki, both Usui and Karuna. I have experienced many profound things along the way. One of my favorite stories is very simple, and some might say it is not worth reporting. Yet to me, it was very significant.

One of my Reiki students once asked me if Reiki could move bones. She had been exploring into other healing methods as well, and was probably referencing Quantum Touch, which is big on moving bones. Her question recalled to me this incident:

We were once in charge of a tiny baby miniature bunny for the first month of its life. We were ‘bunny-sitting’ as it were. When the bunny arrived (small enough to fit inside one palm) he had something wrong with his right front shoulder. He was hopping in a circle in a very erractic way, and the whites were showing around his eyes, an indication of extreme distress. I picked him up and held him in my hands. I immediately began flowing Reiki to him. He relaxed. I should say he melted in my hands. I could tell his shoulder was dislocated. At a certain point I was guided to gently stroke his shoulder and sure enough the bones loudly and visibly rearranged themselves. The little one’s eyes shut and he had an expression of bliss on his little black face. When I finally put him down on the floor he began to run and hop like crazy, even bounding three feet straight up into the air. From that time, every time I picked him up he would roll over onto his back in my hands and just completely melt into relaxation. We called him Zen-bun. Even after he went to his ‘real’ home he would do that when I saw him. I will never forget this littlest ‘client’ of mine. Just remembering him melting in my hands sends me into a deeply calm and happy state.

Now, it’s your turn. How has learning Reiki or receiving Reiki had a profound impact in your life?

drhhm01.jpgMany people in our modern times have what they describe as memories of having lived past lives. Remembering a past life has a potential profound healing effect on one’s health, relationships, life work, spiritual understanding and sense of Self. A past life memory can also be an opening for one’s spiritual evolution and growth. I know because I have remembered many of my own past life experiences and I have facilitated thousands of people while they were in a hypnotic state as they remembered their past lives.

Both spiritual traditions, Hinduism and Buddhism, have versions of reincarnation in their theologies. In both traditions there is a belief that the soul is eternal and that it takes different forms through out the process of birth, death and rebirth. In each tradition there is a belief that the incarnate form and life experiences one has is the effect of past lives. The concept of Karma, cause and effect, is also universal to these traditions. It is interesting to me that in the class readings reincarnation is never addressed as a part of the spiritual precepts or beliefs. In both spiritual traditions reincarnation is a basic component of the theology. The ultimate expression of spiritual growth is moving beyond the cycles of death and rebirth, to a state of re-emergence with the divine.

In this paper I will discuss the concept of reincarnation from two spiritual traditions: Hinduism, and Buddhism . I will weave into the discussion the phenomenology of personal experiences from my twenty-three years experience as a psychotherapist who specializes in past life regression therapy, and as a client of past life therapy . And I will discuss how doing regression therapy can assist the spiritual practice of people who follow the spiritual paths of Hinduism and Buddhism.

Hinduism
Sacred Hindu texts use the term atman to refer to the spiritual essence of a human being. The atman is one’s true self because it connects each individual soul to one Source or Supreme Reality – Brahmin. In Hinduism life is a journey which takes each individual soul back to the oneness of Brahman from which everything is born. On this journey we human beings tend to forget the truth of who we are: we tend to fall into samsara the seemingly never-ending cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Humans are destined to reincarnate over and over again until our atman, or spiritual essence as a human being, can remember that we are Brahman. Lifetimes give us on-going opportunities to reach a state of awareness called moksha or liberation. We can only reach this state by realizing that we are not our personalities and simply material beings. We must follow a path of dharma, a path or moral and ethical conduct to become one with spirit.

The Hindu perspective on reincarnation also includes the concept of transmigration of the movement of the soul from mineral, vegetable and animal forms before becoming human. After going through the many human forms to samsara the soul evolved to become angelic. Some Hindus believe that transmigration can also be reversed: that the human soul can also become animal in its next life if the soul needs to experience the karma of de-evolving.

The Hindu practices follow the teachings in the Vedas which are believed to have been composed between 1200 BCE and 1000 BCE. The Bhagavad- Gita, a Vedic text, is the story of prince Arjuna and his charioteer Krishna, who turns out is the reincarnation of the supreme God, Vishnu, the Lord of the Universe. In the Gita , Krishna explains how spiritual knowledge is attained. Knowledge is attained through the playing out of karma, living out one’s dharma, or spiritual duty, and through the perfection of one’s soul’s and learning through reincarnation. The experience of life and all of its teachings is so vast that it is unlikely that in one life time the soul can move into perfection.

The concepts of Karma and reincarnation are woven throughout the Bhagavad-Gita and are more than dogma to Hindus. In an article that appeared in India’s Illustrated Weekly (September 26, 1971) is the statement, “Karma and reincarnation are to them [Hindus] more than dogma, they are like the air that they breathe. And Hindus cannot help themselves feeling that they are a part of a cosmic scheme that is perpetually in a whirl. As Krishna says in the Gita, ‘All worlds up to that of Brahma are subject to rebirth again and again.’”

In past life regression therapy a client has the opportunity to directly experience the effects of karma or cause and effect in one’s own present and past lives. Through the life stories that unfold and through the associated state in the body, time and place of the past life, the client experiences direct emotions, sensations and soul awareness of the “hows” and “whys” of the past life in relation to current circumstances in one’s present life.
An example is from my own regression therapy work. I grew up with a physically and emotionally abusive alcoholic mother. By the time I was an adolescent I had given up on getting my mothering needs met by her and I lived with resentment and hate. I rejected my mother with the same passion I felt with which she rejected me until I accessed a past life memory when my mother was a child and I was her stepmother. I had the image and sensation of being angry and resentful toward my stepdaughter and beating her as she crouched in a corner. I experienced that I beat her often and that I was relentlessly emotionally cruel to her. I had the realization that in my current life my mother and I carried the soul memory of the past relationship and that karmically we were balancing out the drama by reversing the roles. This experience explained to me so clearly why I was the one out of four daughters she abused. In an instant not only did I understand the cause and effect of her abuse, but I also came to a place of forgiveness of my mother this life time and for myself in the past. Our relationship changed dramatically after this regression. The hate and resentment were gone. I was able to accept her and my relationship with her with more compassion. Understanding the karma between my mother and myself supported my ability to accept what is and to come to a place of peace and healing. I have no way of knowing to what degree this healing of my relationship with my mother has supported my spiritual evolution. I do know, however, that in this life time I feel more able to be present with what is and I felt less reactive and judgmental where my mother is concerned. I have also committed to the dharma of helping others to come to a more accepting and compassionate place in their lives through understanding the “why me?” of difficult situations in their lives. When one comes to the karma of the “why me?” as it is related to the past life connection to current life effects, awareness shifts and healing takes place. Past life regression work can help one do the spiritual work of Chanda in the Hindu tradition: “ This is the wholesome desire of chanda- to be free, the desire to relieve suffering, to be healthy, to promote well-being.” Past life regression therapy brings into the current life the spiritual practice of liberation, and basic self-esteem and equality with others.

Buddhism
Reincarnation is also a basic part of the theology in the Buddhist tradition. The Buddha, Siddhartha, at his moment of enlightenment saw all of his past incarnations as he looked into his reflection in the river. One effect of enlightenment is that the wheels of karma are broken and one no longer must reincarnate to perfect one’s Being. A Boddhisattva, however, is one who reaches enlightenment or Nirvana and chooses to incarnate to assist all others incarnated in reaching nirvana through teaching how one can release suffering and attachment. Reaching perfection is the goal of Buddhists and perfection is reached by incarnating over and over again to experience and learn how to let go of all attachment and suffering created by the mind. The schools of Mahayana and Zen Buddhism hold the belief in personal reincarnation and those who practice these forms of Buddhism are focused on stopping the karmic pull that bring us back into a body in human form.

The original Buddhist scriptures, known as the Pali Canon, were recorded several hundred years after Buddha’s death. The most celebrated of these is the Dhammapada. Here Buddha plainly speaks of two selves within the human being, the lesser self and the greater self, the former being perishable and the later enduring from life to life. Here is a selection from the Dhammapada: “I call him Brahmana [a true Brahmin] who has destroyed his doubts by knowledge and had plumbed the depth of the Eternal….Him I call a Brahmana who knows the mystery of death and rebirth of all beings, who knows his former lives, who is a sage of perfect knowledge and who has accomplished all that needs to be accomplished.”

In the Diamond Sutra the opening paragraph refers to a past life of the Buddha when he was born a king’s son and his raging father cut the infant into pieces:

When the king of Kalinga cut my flesh from every limb, at that time I had no perception of self, of being a soul, or a person. And why? If at that time I had had a perception of self, I would have had a perception of ill-will….With my superknowledge I recall that in the past I have for five hundred births led the life of a sage devoted to patience.

In the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism the Dalai Lama is chosen because of his ability to remember certain objects and spiritual teaching from a prior lifetime as a Dalai Lama. He is put to tests to prove the authenticity of his reincarnational heritage before he is accepted into the role as the new Dalai Lama. His ability to remember is a sign of his advanced spiritual state. The Tibetan Buddhists want to honor the past learnings and wisdom of their spiritual leader; he can pick up where he left off in a prior life time. Bradford Smith of Colombia University writes:

When the previous Dalai Lama dies, wise men who had gone to seek the new holy one, had found a little boy who recognized things that had belonged to his predecessor and could pick them out unerringly from among similar objects….So here is a religion where an infant is born obscurely, recognized by wise men and worshipped: where a holy man prophesies that he will return from the dead……In Tibetan Buddhism, with its firm faith in the rebirth of the soul, not only of the
Dalai Lamas but of all, and of a progress based upon behavior during past lives, this impulse is dramatically present.

The Dalai Lama speaks of the effects of Karma and reincarnation in a poignant way in a discussion of the sad state of Tibet where suffering has been inflicted upon the people, and where the Chinese are attempting to stamp out every vestige of Buddhism may wonder how the Dalai Lama views all this in the light of reincarnation. An answer is given in an interview with the Lama as reported in the New York Times (November 12, 1967):

As a Buddhist he said that he believes that the present events are determined by intricate sets of causes stretching back into the previous lives of those who are affected by them. “Thus”, he said, “it was only an ‘outward appearance’ that the Tibetans were suffering today because of the Chinese aggression. The aggression must have come because we did something bad.” “Similarly”, he went on,” it is only an ‘outward appearance’ that Chinese rule in Tibet is now permanent. The chain of causes that will eventually undermine it, must already be lengthening, even if it cannot be seen.” “Cause and effect, cause and effect, cause and effect, “ he said cheerfully in English, his fingers darting in the air to join the links of an imaginary chain. “There will certainly be change.”

Past life therapy is a spiritual process through which you can remember the Self and the truth of who you are as a spiritual being. Through direct experiences of emotions, body sensations and events one can come to a profound understanding and acceptance of the way it is. One has a direct experience of karma and the bigger picture of the spiritual lessons that come through the process of karmic experiences of cause and effect.

Sixteen years ago a man came to see me to do a past-life regression around his lack of ambition and success in the field of music. The minute he walked into my office I was struck with a deep and profound recognition of him. This man is now my husband of fourteen years. Through out our life and spiritual work together, I have come to understand so much about our connection and our karma.
In a past life we shared in Ancient Egypt, Paul, my husband now, was a man of spiritual responsibility. He was to watch over the Priestess virgins who were to be sacrificed whenever a pharaoh died. The Priestess spirits would accompany the dead pharaohs into the afterlife to protect them and care for them. I was chosen to be sacrificed. He chose me to die because I was the most evolved of the priestess. This choice infuriated me. We had fallen in love and I wanted to be free to be in relationship with him. This was not possible since I was a well- guarded virgin priestess. I was furious that he would choose his spiritual responsibility to sacrifice the highest priestess over our personal love and that I was the victim of a spiritual ritual that I knew was based on superstition, not on the reality of the power of love. When I died I was angry at the stupidity of personal religious sacrifices when I knew that love was the most important healing force in the universe.

Well, in this life time we get to be together to explore personal and spiritual love. I feel that Paul is very dedicated to exploring the experience of personal and spiritual love with me. And I am exploring more lessons about personal sacrifice: what it is and when it feels appropriate and inappropriate. We have both moved beyond religious dogma and adopting external authority where our spiritual life is concerned and we both are involved with the dharma of supporting others in being in relationship with their own spiritual power. We are consciously working on freeing ourselves from the karmic wheel that keeps us caught up in the suffering and entrapment of mind. As stated by the Buddhist scholar Bassui Tokusho:

If you would free yourself of the sufferings of samsara [rebirth], you must learn the direct way to become a Buddha. This way is no other than the realization of your own Mind. Now what is this Mind? It is the true nature of all sentient beings, that which existed before our parents were born and hence before our own birth, which presently exists, unchangeable and eternal. So it is one’s Face before one’s parents were born…When we are born it is not newly created, and when we die it does not perish. It has no distinction of male or female, nor has it any coloration good or bad. It cannot be compared to anything, so it is called Buddha nature….
Should your yearning be too weak to lead you to this state in your present life time, you will undoubtedly gain Self-realization easily in the next, provided you are still engaged in this questioning at death, just as yesterday’s work half done was finished easily today.

Past life therapy is a tool that will support the soul’s spiritual work in moving towards finishing… in moving towards one’s Buddha hood, today. Past life therapy can give one the direct understanding and experience of cause and effect and can help one to more consciously choose thoughts and actions that will support the lessening of personal and planetary suffering. Through doing the work of past-life therapy one can realize more fully that we are all Buddhas in the process of Self-realization.

drrar01-new.jpgDo only what you are truly passionate about. If it is not your passion, turn it over to someone who has the passion. If you choose to follow a practical voice instead of the voice of your passion, your subconscious will sabotage your efforts until you return to your passion.

In my attempts to build a Hypnotherapy practice I moved away from my passion. I watched others who had passion to work with smokers build thriving practices with these clients.

I began to think that smoking and weight loss were the only way to have a thriving Hypnotherapy practice. Being practical instead of passionate, I started aggressively going after these clients. Before I knew it I was getting more of these clients. With each one I was starting to like hypnotherapy less and less.

Suddenly the whole idea of a thriving Hypnotherapy practice brought up a sense of dread within me. A practice filled with smokers trying to quit or even all weight loss clients was not my passion. As a result my smoking cessation clients would make appointments and not show up. My self hypnosis for smoking class had just one student.

Now I’ve committed myself to only working with those clients who I feel passionate about serving. I only do the style and type of hypnotherapy that I am passionate about.

I’ve done this passion dance before in my life. Telling stories was and is a passion of mine. Writing stories was an extension of that passion. Reporting stories became a part of that passion as I entered journalism. But slowly over the years, lured by money and ambition I moved away from my passion. Eventually the passion ran out and I had to get out of Television news and rediscover my passion.

This happens to people all the time. When we make choices to be practical over passionate we run into trouble.

When we follow our passion our lives unfold effortless and easily. If you are driven by passion there’s no procrastination, you leap into a project and can get lost in it for hours or even days. It becomes a compulsion if there’s passion.Speaking Your Truth

There are things in this life that are not our passion, but that might need to be done. So what do we do if this needs to be done, but we’re only going to do what we’re passionate about? Enlist the help and talent of someone who is as passionate about doing these things as you are about your passions.

If we all just hire people who are living their passion, then we all get to live our passion. If you take on something that is not your passion, you are taking away someone else’s opportunity to do what excites them the most.

Anything that you feel you “should do” is not your passion. It is not something that you really want to do. It is something that can be farmed out. You can trade your services, your time, your energy or even pay money to get these things done.

When you push yourself to do something that is not your passion it won’t have the spark, the energy, that certain something that will make you a success.

It is possible to have a passion but not act on it out of fear. Sometimes it can be hard to discern if it is fear or lack of passion that keeps you from your task. When in doubt, Hypnotherapy can be a great tool for figuring this out.

A trance experience can connect you to your own inner wisdom and create an opportunity to discover your passion and let go of your fear.

Just for today, do something that your passionate about and experience how this can change everything

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply an altered state on consciousness or trance. It’s very similar to states of consciousness that you are in on a daily basis. For instance…
When you read a book and really get “into” the story… You are in an altered state of consciousness that is very similar to what we do in my office.

How do you induce that state of consciousness?

The first thing we do is to remove as many outside stimulus as possible. Things like dimming the lights so there is less visual stimulus… We have you recline in a comfortable chair in a comfortable position so that your physical awareness of your body is lessened.
We also try to control other senses such as hearing. In my office, I have my clients wear headphones so that outside noises are reduced, and I can play soft background music and nature sounds along with my voice to conduct the actual session.

What is the actual session?

A hypnosis session is like beginning to read a book. Author’s usually start out writing a story that will lead the reader right into the story until it captures their imagination and the words that he’s written then begin to unfold in the reader’s mind.
We do the same thing with hypnosis with what we call and induction. An induction is simply beginning to give the client something to follow along with, as they begin a journey inside their own mind that unfolds all by itself. We tap into the clients imagination, help them heighten it by asking questions, and then guide them through a story that comes from inside of their own minds. We make general suggestions to them to start them along the way.

What would an example be?

I use a progressive relaxation induction that has the client imagine relaxing different parts of their body. Once we get through the entire body, I ask them to imagine themselves on a beach. That’s pretty non-specific. I suggest that they are on the beach with sand and water and sky, which is on virtually every beach by definition. Then I ask them what the temperature is there, or the time of day… Or the time of year… And the picture begins to paint itself in their mind. I ask them if there are any sounds, and often the sounds of the ocean waves, or birds chirping begin to enter in also… The client begins to become aware of all of these things as their imagination gets going. At that point, we move into the meat of the session where we deal with the issue for which they made the appointment.
How we approach the issue depends on what the issue is.

Does it work?

You know? It does. And even though I do it all the time, and have seen it work with hundreds and hundreds of people, it still amazes me.

So how do you make people change?

I don’t. It’s my job as a hypnotherapist to guide the client into the altered state of consciousness, and then to continue guiding them to discover and explore their inner selves and to come to some sort of resolution all on their own. The part that amazes me is how quickly a client can get to that place inside themselves, how elegantly they can deal with the issue, and how fast the results usually are. It seems like magic sometimes.

drnic01.jpgHere’s an interesting story about my spiritual journey and golf. I grew up on a golf course and had really a love-hate relationship with it. Mainly because my parents really tried to push me into it and also because I did not have the valuable information that I know today, which by the way can be easily taught to children. Nevertheless there was something magical that occurred in me when I was taught to put my 6-year old hands on the grip for the first time and take a swing and watch the ball soar high into the air. I loved that part. I was a great athlete though and golf seemed a bit to slow for me, so I enjoyed several other sports, diving and softball and gymnastics. I played off and on, but more off than on until I turned seventeen. I went to Cal State Stanislaus and went out with a boy on the golf team. I got tired of sitting in the car doing my homework and watching him hit balls so I decided to try it again. Wow was it easy to pick it up again. It was so natural and it was because I learned when I was a child. Here is a piece of advice for all you adults that are taking up golf for the first time. You still have a great chance to learn golf and play well. It is a myth that you have to play golf when you are little to be good. Sure it helps, but if you can learn in a childlike state and if your teacher can nurture that you will learn much faster.

Anyway to get on with my story. Within two years I was able to be an alternate player at the number one team in the nation at the time- San Jose State University. San Jose State produced many champions such as Pat Hurst, Julie Inkster and Patty Sheehan. I felt not only that I was lucky but that there was something bigger- a destiny.

During my years at San Jose State I was able to have a meeting with the sport psychologist Tomas Tutko, who is the forefather of sport psychology. In that one meeting I was fourth in a home tournament. Although I didn’t hold on to the lead and learned that the skills he taught me greatly changed my performance. And I was on my way to a very interesting career and spiritual path.

After college I joined the Ladies Professional Golf Association and began teaching juniors and then later adults. I learned from many valuable pros on how to teach the physical aspects of the golf swing as well as the courses that the LPGA provided. I moved to Northern California and worked as a golf teacher at a busy driving range giving hundreds of lessons. I loved it. I have an extreme passion for watching my students get better, but I knew that there was something missing. Something that I couldn’t necessarily provide and needed to know more about.

One morning I woke up to a dream about a man telling me all about his migraine headaches. In the dream he kept telling me about these headaches to the point I was annoyed. I woke up a little irritated because of this dream, especially because it seemed so real. I went to the range that day and was hitting golf balls and looked up at a man staring at me. I acknowledged him wondering all the while why he was so in my face. He then proceeded to tell me all about his headaches, I listened intently because it was the same story in my dream that morning. He then told my how hypnosis helped him get rid of his headaches. I immediately went home and looked up a hypnosis school in my area and told my husband at the time that I was going to spend 3,000$ on hypnosis training because I knew I was suppose to. He thought I was crazy but could tell I felt very strongly about this. I thought if hypnosis could work for that man’s headaches it might certainly work for people’s golf games. I went to hypnosis training for 4 months and it changed my life drastically. My friend Rick McFall and I opened up an office together and I saw the miracles of hypnosis in action with my clients golf games as well as many other areas of their lives.

During this time I also attended John F. Kennedy University to get my Master’s in Sport Psychology, a program in which I did my thesis in hypnosis and golf. The golf lessons I gave to me clients took on an extremely different feel. They started to have deep spiritual insights about themselves, and others whom the played with. They developed more body awareness. They were more aware of their feelings of anger and able to change them to joy. I was also on a different journey as a teacher and a player.
I then worked at the Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon, where I was both a teacher and a hypnotherapist/sport psychologist. We had a wonderful inside teacher facility with state of the art video technology. On the other hand I was lucky enough to be given a trailer for my sport psychology. I have to say that most people after having a lesson with me could understand that there problems I golf weren’t so much related to their physical technique but more to their mental game. They found that after bringing more awareness to their mental game they were more able to learn the physical technique and much quicker.

This was so exciting to me and I wanted to take it a step further, so I went to the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology to get my doctorate in spiritual psychology. I learned much about alternate states of reality through dreams, art, dance and poetry. All the while I was thinking of way I could apply this to golf. I also studied acting and learned much about the correlation to body/mind awareness. I decided that I wanted to take a break from school and take a year to apply this to my own golf game and that’s exactly what I did. I practiced for 8 hours a day all the while using golf as a meditation to get me closer to the source of my inner spirit.

I was able to get the pro tournament experience I needed to further me along my journey by playing in a couple of events in Arizona and I went to tour school for the LPGA. Although I didn’t qualify I was able to reach my intention of taking myself all the way through that in order to truly understand the depths of my own spiritual awareness so I could further help others. I am now in a doctorate program at San Diego University of Integrative Studies. I am taking clinical psychology so I will be able to work with anyone in any area. All the while still expanding my knowledge of my own golf game and helping others reach their true potential. I want to help as many people as I can to experience that inner awareness, joy, and spirituality that I have experienced.
I live in Palm Springs now- a golf mecca. I am excited to be in the heart of a golf community and look forward to my new journey as a golfers guide on a spiritual path. I hope our paths will cross in this wonderful sport and wonderful planet that we are so fortunate to be a part of. Golf is truly a journey into your soul, if you let it be.
